You're invited to the Mexico Expo 2006

Hi fellow Nomads:

Not sure if you have noticed the banner at the bottom of the Nomad pages, but I am producing the Mexico Travel & Real Estate Expo in San Diego on Feb. 12th.

I know this forum is not for advertising a business, but Doug has been nice enough to allow me to mention it and invite all the Nomads free of charge to the event.

The banner links to the website with all of our information. We'll have exhibitors, seminars on Mexico real estate and tourism, mariachis, plus hotel room and other giveaways.

If you are interested in attending, and would like me to place you on the guest list at the entrance, please email me your full name. I will not be at the door and there is a fee to attend, so I would need to know in advance.

Thanks,
Ted

Giveaways

give?away
Pronunciation: 'gi-v&-"wA
Function: noun
1 : an unintentional revelation or betrayal
-----
Welp, there goes the neighborhood.
or shall I say "there go in the neighboorhoods"

I was always led to believe that only "Nomads" and close allies were allowed to share Baja.
What happened? Did I miss somethin', huh?

I think it reads more like:
Mexico Exploitation

Sharksbaja,

Thanks for airing out your opinion, one that is shared by many I'm sure. I'm sorry to see Baja change too, but it's inevitable. I am simply providing a way to promote the businesses in Baja whose market is from the US and Canada. I'm also having seminars on purchasing real estate, tourism, getting married, etc. as an educational forum. And, as you mention some of the hotels, restaurants, and a fishing charter are giving away vouchers for their services.

If you don't agree with an expo like this and promotion of these businesses, what a wonderful opportunity to come on down and meet face-to-face with these people (and government officials) to tell them how you feel??

Thanks Ted for the opportunity - I have published the Baja Calendar at a loss for 6 years (mostly due to my poor marketing skills...), but I continue due to the positive comments I get from those who do order and the students who profit from their sales - Thank you for the possibility to expand my endeavor - Marv

You can pick one up (or order one) direct from Marv (like at the Expo).... or, click on the link above that says "2006 Baja Calendar - $11.95" - as that's Marv's calendar that I've been shipping out as well.

;)

I wonder how Doug can make the calendar link here any more obvious? They look great hanging on the wall! Come on Nomads, get yours! Pretty to look at and they help students get to the Marine biology field trip at Bahia las Animas that has been a great event in their lives.

Thanks Ted for inviting us! I hope to see you, Marv, and other Nomads there... I am not planning on being in Baja that weekend, so it sounds like the next best thing!

Thanks for the invite Ted. Really, don't take my comment on a personal level please!

How do you stop an avalanche?

I know it's your livelyhood and this event will probably benefit a few Mexicans. But mostly it will be Canadians and Americans with much money to spend on themselves, just like a boat expo. I'm not sure of a benefit to middle or lower income nationals south of the border. What do you think?
The commercialization of Baja will only change Baja into a bed we already sleep on.
For me personally, discovery is still a beautiful thing in Baja. Capitalist Canadfians and Americans selling and educating themselves to themselves in San Diego pretty much says it all.

Sharksbaja,

I never took it personally. I have some of your same views, but I also work in the field of promoting Mexico. Tood bad you couldn't be there as you could probably start some good discussions on overdevelopment, etc. We will have ProPeninsula there to promote saving the environment.

As far as your comment on the developments and hotels helping the middle to lower class citizens, I just say where in the world does it help them except to give them a job and put food on the table. Most of them won't rise above that job.

Well, hope to see some of you out there (email me if you want a free entrance) and Doug, I never meant to keep this up in the headlines, just wanted to mention the Expo. HA!

Ted

Great attitude, MexTed!

It is important for a respectful exchange of differing ideas, thoughts, and opinions.

We folks who want to seek more responsibility and accountability in growth and protection of environment, community, and culture do need to stay involved. I've found myself standing on the sidelines "throwing stones" at times, myself, but I've always found I feel better about it when I roll up my sleeves, shake a few hands, try to understand WHY someone believes something that seems so... obtuse to me, and try to offer my own personal picture/vision....

Success often comes from reframing a vision over and over, in many different ways until others start to "get the picture"...

If I was in the area then, I'd stop in and check it out to try to get an idea of what is looming in the days ahead, but alas, I'll be busy at it....

Thanks for the kind offer!

djh

Was great today!

Good seeing so many Baja Nomads and other friends today!

Our own jefe Doug (Baja Nomad) and family were there... Hugh and Carol from Discover Baja also. My web host Dick Van Bree (BajaLinks.com), Antonio of Baja Cactus, of course... Celia Diaz of the Binational Emergency Commitee too (Baja Angel and I joined).

Juan del Rio had his camera out and took several photos... Carlos Fiesta was there from BajaExpo.com too!

The organizer was our very own Mexico Ted of Baja Talk Radio... and he did a great job!

Thanks Ted for all your hard work... well done!
