Camcephe hotels
I'll go to Camcephe soon. I'm looking for advice on a reasonable priced hotel. A couple of things to do while I'm there. Merida zoo is free the
train is one peso. When I got back to my hotel, a mile long parade was forming on the street in front of the hotel. Spectacular costumes

I like the Castelmar Hotel for good value in the centro. Hotel Lopez is more expensive but has a great breakfast included.
The Museo de Arqueologia is worth checking out and a long walk on the Malecon. The food is really good in Campeche.

Unfortunately, the public computer I am now using does not allow screenshots. Above is a link to the map of the area around the Plaza Principal
(called the Plaza de la Independencia on this map).
There are two hotels nearby that I stayed at years ago. I don't know if any of them are still there or what their rates might be.
Off the north-west corner of the plaza were the Hotel Campeche for 285 pesos, and the Hotel Reforma for 180 pesos.
Across the plaza to the east is the Catedral de Nuestra Senora be la Purisima Concepcion, at this location for more than three centuries.
To the north, just outside the walls, is the Museo de la Arquitectura Maya, which is excellent.
Heading west from the Museo de la Arquitectura Maya, walking along the walls will bring you in succession to the Puerta del Mar, Museo de la Ciudad,
and the Baluarte de Santa Rosa.
Use the above linked map to zoom in and move around. To the southeast of the Plaza de la Independencia, a few blocks across the old town (a must-walk
area, which is very atmospheric) is the Puerta de Tierra, with the Baluarte de San Francisco to the east and a bus station not far to the south.
You can discover all kinds of interesting things in just walking around.

Glad I can be of help. Tomorrow I will be on a better computer and will try to post some map jpgs.
The old center of Campeche is a UNESCO World Heritage site...for good reason.
Chippy has already mentioned the Museo Arqueologico de Campeche & Fuerte de San Miguel, which is excellent. It is about 4km southwest of the
Plaza de la Independencia. City buses go there, or a taxi would be faster.

The Plaza de la Independencia area of Campeche City. I've marked some things in red: 3 hotels, Templo de San Jose, Iglesia San Roque.
Try Hotel Campeche across street from Plaza first (if you want lower budget rooms).
Other sights were already marked on the map. The Museo de la Arquitectura Maya is excellent. The Museo de la Ciudad is also good. Click map for
enlargement.

Already marked on this map were some good sights: Puerta de Tierra, Baluarte de San Francisco, Baluarte de San Pedro. Click map for enlargement.
