Wow. What a calm and clear presentation and amazing that they got so much on film. Hopefully just a matter of time, sooner rather than later, before they nab the guy.

Camp Gecko!

BDLA generates crime stories. Perhaps there is something in the water…

So is the girl friend another victim, or a fugitive on the run? It sounds like she is linked to the Jeep that surely must be an evidence source.

It sounded to me like the tweaker had no link to Baja.

A tragic event and so lucky the stabbing didn't cause more harm to the victim.
About the crash site: How did the Jeep get removed so quickly, by whom? That curve is about 2 miles from town. Of course the video doesn't say when they were examining the site. It may have been a week after. Why no photos or video of the wreckage, just two miles from Camp Gecko? Was Doc not around? We saw him driving around Gecko when we were checking it out on May 16.

Why no photos or video of the wreckage?
I think she said they passed it on their way to the clinic which is why they knew it was wrecked. And around midnight. Yeah, since an evidence source, maybe she (owner) had it towed right away before they left town. I read a Talk Baja partial comment said "last seen trying to get a ride out of BOLA". (I haven't read any other TB comments if there are any, because I've been banned from that site ... for calling someone a snowflake.) But I hope the victim sends their video to US law enforcement. Alex's truck has California plates. He's had time to cross into US.

In that pre-Google Earth and social media epoch, The Code was adhered to. It was based on a simple verity: if a locale had been transformational for you, and you had put the hard yards in to get there and to learn it, to know it, why in gods name would you broadcast the news, thus ruining the future experience not only for yourself, but for future adventurers?

At that point I imagine their focus was on getting the injured man to the hospital, asap, rather than stopping to take photos or videos of the disabled vehicle.

Of course, but the wreck was midway between Gecko (2 mi) and town (2 mi), on the only road. Was the wreck removed before sunrise?

Well, that's a question the answer to which was not provided. Maybe the perp has buddies in the area he called to tow it. Or maybe some other bad guys saw it abandoned and hauled it away, stripped it down and it can no longer be found. I imagine the answer will come out if there is further comprehensive reporting.

And considering the victims probably didn't get to sleep until the early morning hours after the hospital visit, they may not have been inclined to get up at sunrise to go see if it was still there.

Does it matter where the wrecked car is? Seems to be an irrelevant detail… anywho, i thought the vid showed the vehicle being held at the popo station.

No goat, it isn't irrelevant. It is on the only road between town and Gecko, and all points south. Plenty of other (non-Gecko incident) people could photograph it. No big deal but the video was so detailed, I am surprised it didn't show the wreck before it was moved... or make a comment on how quickly it was moved, considering the location.

In the comments she said the jeep had been towed to the junk yard at the BOLA junction. The video also showed a picture of the perp's truck parked at the girlfriend's house. Then another comment said, "We don't know where the truck is" and that they looked around BOLA but could not find it. She speculated that the truck was driven out of town in the "wee hours".

Didn't seem to be capable of driving out of town after all the boulders he drove over and hit, and all the damage he did to it, as evidenced by all the oil he lost.

Two different vehicles. The girlfriend's jeep was wrecked and towed to the junkyard. The perp's truck was parked at the girlfriends' house and now is gone. Maybe they walked back to Gecko and took the truck when the victim was at the clinic? It's not clear when the photo of the truck at the girlfriend's house was taken. One thing for sure that girl and her boyfriend are not going to be very welcome if they try and come back to the camp. Sounds like he was drunk and possibly high on meth, went psychotic.

Oh, not sure if that was always the case! Camp Gecko was the go to place for New Years Eve fun... of course, that was 25 years ago! How time flies: Here is New Years 2002 after midnight at Camp Gecko.

Wow! I coincidentally happened to be at Camp Gecko that night. New Years 2001-2002 was my first solo Baja road trip.

There's Beach Bob in the kitchen in the background of my photo, too:

I didn't know anyone there at the party, so I didn't stick around long.
