Larry

In La Paz the is being done by Marina De La Paz, and they sell the list for 10 pesos, it would be a huge undertaking to do this for the whole Baja.

It is incredibly easy to sling negative commentary on an easy shopping/one stop kind of place w/o a viable alternative offered for those of us that don't have endless hours to discover good local vendors . At work we try not to offer criticism w/o some type of positive follow up. Not having a whole lot of Mexicano freinds who are purchasing the stuff I need at this time and usually wanting to hurry thru the northernmost part of baja makes it difficult at best when I don't have many days to fart around looking for stuff. I will try to apply the same philosophy I use towards roadside eating; look for where the locals are at. That'll probably end up being the big box stores, unfortunately.
Hopefully there will be some decent follow up from those that are more knowledgable than myself (which should be a WHOLE lot of folks).

Larry

It just covers La Paz, they charge 10 pesos, and I don't know how often it is updated. By the way it is an extensive list and is done very well.

I have alot of local Rosarito to Ensenada businesses we use. Let me know what type your looking for and I'll put some up.
Soul Patch.I'm trying to find the telephone numbers and addresses for 2 ferriterias we use in Ensenada.. I'll post them here went I find them. (you know it's one of those places we go to all the time, I know right where it is but I'll be damed if I know the street name or number.) I;m looking for you though,k:yes:

Bob it is on the free rd from Rosarito to Tj closer to Rosarito around the La Gloria area. They have simons sealy ,serta and many others. They are demos from the big furniture stores. Queen sets around $200.00 .I bought one from him and it was way to soft ,I have a bad back and this just didn't work for me . it was one of those beautiful pillow tops. so I was just going to keep it and put it here because I did'nt think he'd take it back. I'd had it a couple of weeks. He said no problem brought me out a firmer mattress and took the other one back. I was impressed. This is just a little hole in the wall store. That sold me . I send alot of people to him.. For 9 mattresses I'd ask how much to deliver . he might do it.,k

We think it means Hardware store

or any derivative to that effect.
Hose A, one is Pacific on Mexico st by Calimax way south of Cortez in about the same area. Little different but close enough for our use, and the other we call Cheto's. Mike spends alot of dinero in both places. We get alot of our stuff here locally also. If Mike shops it and tells the owner what he found it for and where he will try as close as he can to match it. k:yes::yes:

Bruce is right, it means hardware store and Manguera A is also correct for a place that sells hardware, nails, tools. It comes from the word fierro (hierro) and it would litterarily mean a place that sells items made of iron. My grandmother used to call tools "Los fierros"

The nail has been solidly struck---Do the big boxes have to give factura's?

When I was buying stuff in Baja it was understood that if you wanted a factura that you would pay 10% extra.

"It's a flexible country."- U.S. Embassy Official, 1965

My wife's cousin's husband, Gilberto, worked for the government in the D.F.. His job was to collect taxes from street vendors, mostly those selling "fayuca" on the sidewalks. He was not an imposing figure, did not look like a cop or a "goon" and was invariably polite and soft-spoken. He considered himself a "Cafe Intellectual". His procedure was never to demand or threaten. He would simply present his credentials to the merchant of the "informal economy" and ask if they would like to "cooperate".

They invariably did. "How", I asked, "can you or they determine the correct amount of taxes owed if none of them keep books, give receipts or declare profits?" His reply was, "They know."

I often watched him, sitting at his kitchen table, counting and dividing the day's collection of coins and small bills. He was scrupulously honest in his accounting (I guess his appointment depended on that) and never once skimmed more than his appropriate share of the take. "How", I asked, "does your boss know that the amount you turn in is correct?"

His reply was, "He knows."

All my childhood I wanted to be older. Now I\'m older and this chitn sucks.

Factura

Made in triplicate with one going to the customer, one for theaccountant of the business and one to Hacienda (tax folks) by law one should be issured for each transaction.
That's why you get a 10% break if you don't want one.
That is if they have not changed the rules in the past two years.

I have a story in my new book about a business man (American) who does not understand the rules and fails to submit sales taxes on time--cost him a ton of mordida to get them to 'forget' his 'error'.

They can, and do.

Correct.

As a corporation, I am required to collect IVA on every sale. To offset, I demand a factura from all my vendors.

That's why most avoid me like the plague.

No, but they are required to give one to any customer with the proper credentials, that asks. Also required to give a legitimate receipt that must include:

Name and address of business and RFC number.

I usually collect receipts and present them for a factura at EOM.
