Fuel prices for April 2006.
Hi everyone, these are the fuel prices for the current month (only after 20km south of border with the US):
Magna.............$ 6.27 pesos per liter
Premium..........$ 7.40 pesos per liter
Diesel..............$ 5.15 pesos per liter
These prices are in liters, and 1 gallon = 3.7854 liters.
Today (April 1st) 1 dollar = $ 10.50 pesos (+/-)
Using the previous information, this is what we have....
Magna............$ 2.260 dollars per gallon
Premium.........$ 2.667 dollars per gallon
Diesel.............$ 1.856 dollars per gallon
Remember that the fuel prices 20 km along the US border are being locally equaled to those in the States, therefore, they are higher than further in
Baja.

Seems the 20KM rule does not apply in Tecate - I just purchased 533.42 liters of Diesel in town at the MN 5.15 price. I wonder what the exact rules
for that are.
Also, I THINK I got some new pumps. These would shut down automatically if you stopped pumping for a period of time - and produced a computerized
receipt (actually two, since it stopped once). Is this part of the equipment "revamping" Antonio? And who is paying for the upgrades (PEMEX, the
franchisees?)

I often purchase diesel in Mexicali and it is priced the same as further south. I think it's only the Magna that meets US prices. (and posibly the
premium)
Magna is over 7 pesos a liter in Mexicali.

For those driving south, in No. San Diego County regular is $2.619 or higher at Arco or Costco... $2.75+ at most company stations along I-5.

Wow! That is cheap!
I pay $2.97 in Mammoth Lakes.
In Maui last week it was $3.17.
Both prices for regular.

That makes sense. Awhile back, gas was actually cheaper in the states and Pemex became aware that many Fronterizos were crossing over to fill up on
the U.S. side. So, they "equalized" the price along the border to discourage this. Since Mexicans are forbidden to own private non-commercial diesel
vehicles, no significant problem existed regarding diesel, so no change occurred. Today, the price of Magna throughout the republic is less than
unleaded in the U.S., But Pemex finds no compelling reason to lower the border prices to the national level as long as they can get a price "equal" to
the cross border competition. Logical thievery, as it were.
All my childhood I wanted to be older. Now I\'m older and this chitn sucks.

Looks like the cheapest today is up to $2.679 in San Diego area... but plentiful and dispenced from accurate pumps.

Rules...
Every gas station 20km south of the border has an equal price to those in the States... only Magna and Premium are affected... not diesel.
Now, every weekend a "special" and "local" comission looks around at the prices at the US and, depending on this survey, prices may or may not be
moved on tuesdays.
Right now, in Tijuana Magna is 7.91 pesos a liter and Premium is 8.40 pesos.
This is a huge difference to those inland.
Regarding pumps shutting down, there is an implementation order by Profeco every pump must have... and this is that if the fuel is not dispensed for
more than 30 seconds, the dispenser must shut down and be reprogrammed again... this is called "anti-theft" implementation... and it is supossed to
protect the customer.
And about the new upgrades.... jajajaja.... I wish Pemex would even lend the money.... EVERYTHING has to be paid by the owner of the gas station.
Everyone is very angry now, because Pemex just sent out a memo informing every gas station in the country that we now have to change all the
dispensers for a special one they want now... each one costs roughly $16,000 dlls.
I do not know yet if this will proceed, but for now the order stands.

Antonio works to death running several businesses so he doesn't have to rob customers to make ends meet like so many other Pemex owners seem to need
to do.

The heavy cost of making the pumps legal is minor compared to the dollars gained by years of ripping off people. If they had beed honest all along,
this would not be happening.

Both times this weekend I filled up in Mexicali, I was charged a rate of 10:$1 when the posted rate was actually 10.60:$1. There's no way I would pay
the "Gringo" price, and I recalculated the amount and payed the appropriate amount...

If you'd filled up in San Felipe the cost would have been less, almost a peso a liter.

$2.719 in Oceanside today at a Thrifty's, Coast Hwy. exit/ I-5. That's the lowest I have seen around here.

I might as well continue this because many of you are not from Southern California and will be passing through San Diego County...
Today (4-12), the lowest prices around here are about $2.779 (ARCO) and up. I saw $2.939 for regular at another station.

I filled up at the cantamar pemex today. The price was 6.59 lt (magna). The station is 46 km south of the border.

I'm curious about this restriction? Why is that? We are planning to travel in our diesel Ford; no problems, I hope.
