Tentative plans

for two weeks sometime in August. Want to do the whole Malarrimo-Tortugas-Asuncion-Abreojos thing as it is area I have never traveled. We like desert camping around the full moon so I'm sure we'll be thinking of that in our timetable.

Hola Sr.Hook: If you come to Asuncion, camping in San Roque on the full moon ROCKS! You will love it...oh yeah, remember, the Traditional Fiestas are on Aug.22-25, lots of fun and action....good to avoid if you don't like parties but San Roque is quiet. Maybe we could plan a little Nomad gathering here? Or should we wait till lobster season opens in September? Looking forward to meeting you....shari,juan & sirena

Lobster season would be nice but a September trip would run afoul of anyone on a conventional school schedule. That's my case, anyway, and anyone with kids.

Love San Roque, is Vincente still a vigilante there?

hope to take a trip up this summer from Ojos. See ya. gp

I'm back in LA after a long time away and have been thinking of Baja for ages. I've never been south of Bahia de los Angeles but have dreamed of beach combing Mallarimo.

So finally this 4th of July weekend my girlfriend and I are going to see if my old Jeep can hack it.

If anyone is headed that way this weekend let's meet for a beer somewhere.

Any tips for a Mallarimo 1st timer? We're just one vehicle (though with a pull-pal and hi-lift) but would like to avoid any routes that could do our Jeep in.

Hope I can meet some of you guys, reading though this forum has been great!

Cheers,
Chris

Chris, beware of the driving on the beach to the east (towards Estero McMahan and Scammon's Lagoon... the dry wind blown sand covers gooey quick sand mud at the mouth of each arroyo where it meets the beach.

I have not yet gone to Malarrimo (means 'bad to get near'), but this is the warning from many who have... Driving the coast to the west and meeting the road from Tortugas where it drops down from the hills has been reported safe. Maybe stay above the high tide line at the base of cliffs, since you may be all alone out there!

Please take notes and photos... would love a fresh trip report!

Use the Nomad Search engine to find more details on MALARRIMO BEACH.

Welcome aboard!

Over a decade ago, I led a group of DesertExplorers.org to Malarrimo.

While I was playing in the sand dunes, one of them went east (right). :o:o

The Jeep, being made of used beer cans, was light and came out easy.

The other vehicle was a little heavier and took a little more effort.

The tide coming in made it lighter.:light::lol:
