?SI SE PUEDE!

1-1 at the half!

...and both goals by Mexicans!

Marquez with the first in the 6th minute, fully atoning for his earlier unthinking handball in the penalty zone.

Then Borgetti, back from injury, trying to head one away but unfortunately putting it in the Mexican net::no:

The Mexican fans in full rut...

Oh, so close. It took a FANTASTIC goal to beat Mexico. Wow.

I was out fishing the first half. The game was rebroadcast on marine vhf radio by a local pangero.

Yes it was fantastic- in the air.

Mexico has nothing to be ashamed of, 120 minutes well-fought.

and now, la Joga Bonita...

England-Ecuador zero-zero at the half, and I mean ZERO-ZERO. Absolutely NOTHING happening. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

If the rest of the games were like this, I'd have to agree with Bill:barf:

Screw it, I guess I gotta take the vieja to fn Wall-Mart. Maybe we'll get back in time for Portugal- Nederlands.

Soccer Hysteria

One TV News commentator last night had an interesting take on the Soccer Culture. He said that he thought it good that Soccer had never caught on in the U.S. because the hysteria and rioting that the rest of the world seems to accept as an inevitable part of the game has not crossed into our culture. When there is a fan running onto the field in an MLB game, it makes the frontpage in the U.S. So far, the only rioting involved with American sports has been in the victor city after a Championship and those have started in ethnic neighborhoods used to rioting for whatever reason.

Dang! Missed most of the Portugal-Holland match. Sounds like it was almost violent enough for MrBillM. Set a record for cards; 16 yellows and 4 reds, both teams finishing with 9 on a side. This Cup has already set a record for red cards- 23 so far I think.

Maybe FIFA had a prayer-meetin with the refs, the flow of cards seems to have slowed- either that or today's teams were more polite.

Brasil-Ghana ma?ana!

The Portugal-Holland match was a hoot. Rough game, four ejected and one Portugese player injured by a nasty foul. In the second half it just rained yellow cards. They may be short 3 guys against England, who had to be loving it.

The Brit commentator called it "The Battle of Nurenburg" lol.

SAMBA!

Brasil 3-0
y Ghana se quedo con las ganas...

All kinds of records going down. 200th World Cup goal for Brazil, 15th for Ronaldo.

Over 300 yellow cards this Cup so far, more than 2 dozen reds.

To their credit, Ghana is one of only three first timers to ever advance to second round. When moving the ball downfield out of traffic, they show incredible speed. A good showing overall.

Prediction: Spain will take France this afternoon. Brazil will take Spain in quarter-finals.

Brazil- Ghana

Excellent game and Ghana deserved a little better result. Poor finishing kept them from getting on the board. But Brazil ,who did not play that much better, is deadly if giving the slightest chance. Fun to watch.
And Oso, I'm with you on your predictions. Would love to see a Brazil- Argentina final.:P:P:P

Well, I got the first part of my prediction wrong. Brazil will take the Frogs in the quarterfinal. Great hook by Zidane. Interesting, with all the news these days about racism in France, to see so many noir on their team.

Let's see how Jesse's prognostication is doing... Anybody care to do the math? 80-85%?

Israel to the Rescue

Just when I became discouraged at the lack of World Cup Rioting, Israel invades the Gaza Strip and gives us some great graphics as they send Diaperheads to meet their Virgins. It makes for a great break from watching all of the flooded East Coast territory. BORING.
