Optimistic

I have been forwarding the posts from Shari to Dr. Trombley and here are his latest thoughts on the shaking in Asuncion.

Hi Rick -

Thanks for the new e-mail. I am convinced now that the problem at Asuncion is earthquake related and not volcanic or necessarily venting as per your map and earthquake epicentres. But we'll see. Keep me posted. Have the scientists from the university in La Paz that you mentioned made any reports or statements ?

Respectfully,

This new report mentions that the towns people are saying it's the birth of 3 new volcanoes?

Hi everyone, we just snuck back into town to get some more wine to calm our nerves....ha! OK, 2 days ago was a big town meeting where the scientists (the top guy in the field from Mexico city is now here too) and a bunch of others with more equipment...anyway they said it a "hive" type deal that is 10 km under us...definately not volcanic that may or may not continue to give us quakes, but they didn't think there would be any bigger ones. They said ford the teachers and kids to go back to school....just not go IN the school or church...that we should try to live our life as normally as possible. So lots of folks returned to their homes only to be thrown out of bed at 7:32 in the morning with a pretty big one....BAM all at once, then coninuous tremors for the next hour and a half which was nerve racking...then about (:30 came the real ZINGER that cracked wall and houses, lifted tile and roads and the cliff by our house..our house took a beating on the cliff here, really cracked all over the place and the fridge did a merry little jig and stuff fell off the shelves and there was glass everywhere from broken stuff...really folks it was AWFUL scary...and then there were constant tremors afterward all morning...the army came an hour later and told us we had to evacuate to the airstrip...which is out in the open, super windy etc. They wanted everyone in one place. OK OK...we gave in and loaded up the trucks...the coop was giving 30 liters of gas to everyone, but all the stores were closed as the stuff fell off the shelves. they banned the sale of liquor and beer several days ago which has lots of the fishermen in a nasty mood. Thank goodness for all you folks who have left us bottles of wine that I was saving for a celebration...lots of friends showed up to help us celebrate and calm everyones nerves!! LThe phone was dead for a bit and I couldn't report in but didn't really want to be in the house anyway except to quickly throw stuff in a pack. Luckily we have our beach house in San Roque where you can't feel anything (only about 5 miles away! Finally we got some sleep but had awful volcano nightmares and kept thinking the house was shaking. Soooo, today over the VHF came another report and the scientists still say no problem...normal hive activity but they now say it is from the Tosca Abreojos fault out at sea and coming towards us here at the point??? So last meeting they said NO danger of Tsunami because they were land based quakes....so now what??? If it is in the sea should we be ready to head for the hills which there is one right behind San Roque??? It was crazy after the last big quake how the town emptied out soooo fast and everyone is too freaked to come back now. CRAP, there just went another one...it's been pretty quiet all day so if I sign off in a hurry it's cause the crap hit the fan again and I had to run...think I'll go now anyway....just wanted to keep you all posted...town is empty, everything is closed...people are scared...another small one...I'm outa here and back to San Roque then...try to post tomorrow again...love ;you all....shari

One more ;thing, I don't get it how yesterdays early morning quake could have registered smaller than the much bigger one later??? Also stickers, if RB wants to come, look for us in San Roque, we have a bed for him.(bring a carton of cerveza though! Since it's been so quiet today, we are bracing for a big one this afternoon, typically there are big ones around 4-5 in the afternoon, so I'll just be going back to San Roque now thanks...on the radio they said they felt yesterday's in Turtle Bay and Guerrero Negro slightly

Great to hear from you Shari. I don't know how anyone has any nerves left at all----I would be a total basket case.

Stay safe and I sure hope this all quits SOON.

Are there displaced families still camping at the airstrip? We work with a pastor in Vizcaino that might be able to bring some food/water. Anyone have an update on that?

Thanks to Shari & daughter for their efforts in keeping us posted regarding our friends in Ascuncion.

Blessings...dp

Normal to have clustering of quakes (they almost always come in multiples), but seems odd to have so many quakes with sufficient magnitude to crack walls and roads.

Keep asking questions until they spill all of the info -- if you keep asking, sooner or later you'll get the details. Make them draw a map for you, and ask them to explain the orientation and location of active faults, and orientation of slip movement.

Good stuff, Bob H-----

----the sea cliffs are pretty high at Asuncion, especially the west facing portion, but the south facing portion of the point is pretty exposed with the town only maybe 20 feet above sea level. Still, a decent size Tsusami could do lots of damage.

San Rogue (a truly tiny place) is somewhat more exposed, if I remember right.

Plate Tectonics (snap back) are what caused the Indonesian Tsunami, I believe, and the danger is very real. Still, you just never know what is coming next----maybe nothing----like the Mammoth Mt. area.

I am encouraged in that there are so many "stress reducing" quakes happening there-------reduces the chance of a truly "big one".

I think I hit a wrong button somewhere... yikes.

Here's a re-post of it....

Could be concerns of multiple tsunami's - see article from March 2005 issuing warnings for the entire Canadian and U.S. West Coast (surely this could include Baja)... Bob H

Date: Monday, 7 March 2005, 11:38 p.m.

Stan Deyo Issues Warning !

March 7, 2005/ This evening on Steve Quayle's Q-Files Radio Program, Scientist Stan Deyo issued a Warning about a possible building Cascade Subduction Zone 9.0+ Earthquake that could produce not only a 9.0 Quake but also resulting multiple tsunamis' that could last 8 to 10 hours, washing back and forth, causing much destruction. Deyo reported that the Juan de Fuca Plate is starting to buckle and puts British Columbia at great risk; also threatening Washington, Oregon, California and basically the entire West Coast of US.

Deyo reported that he has never seen these type signals ever off the West Coast of US, but they're there now! Deyo believes that the other Scientists that should be warning are being muzzled by their governments to avoid panic. Steve Quayle stated he has reports that Russian Scientists are warning of a 10.0+ off the US West Coast. Deyo did report that this involves not only Seismic Quake activity but also volcanic at Mt. St. Helen's and under the ocean off Vancouver Island. This is a very serious Warning to the United States & Canadian West Coast area.

Included in the interview was reports that Scientists are rushing to the northwestern and Canadian area to investigate the current spike of events and danger signals. Deyo reported that local northwest advisories are
advising a Go-Bag with 72 hours provision and advise to flee the area if anything happens.

Stan & Holly Deyo Website:

Steve Quayle Website:

I have tried to report this information as accurately as possible from my notes of the interview on Shortwave this evening. I will report any further information as I obtain the information.

Another quake reported yesterday (Fri.) around noon. Looks like this is the biggest one so far.

Interesting that from the map on the USGS site , it looks like they are indicating that the quakes from several days ago were closer to the Asuncion coast than first indicated, and the more recent quake is offshore .
