It wold be hard to not have fun in Baja. I imagine if one tried really, really hard that one could have a bad time..........nah.......that was theoretical.

Greetings from temblorama! (Temblor means earthquake). Things are very quiet these last few days, only 4 yesterday but they take you by surprise that way and one was at bedtime which was spooky and made it hard to relax and sleep well. All night I have these shaking dreams and don't really know if they are real or what! Another interesting way the townsfolk have had to adjust is in the stores they have to put all the things in glass in crates on the floor like the liquor and food jars etc. It looks kinda weird if you don't know why they are down there. Tthe weather is superb, lovely and warm with just a light breeze but there has been a huge swell which makes loud noise at the blowhole here but is absolutely stunning to see. I hope today is a good day as it is the celebration of the Virgin of Guadalupe so everyone is making special food, tamales, menudo etc. I'm making mole...yummmy.
Now about this chick gathering....it's beginning to sound like a party...which I'm always up for. For our personal security why don't we use U2U to plan this little bash next week. How bout I let Kelly know when we'll be there and we can take it from there...I'd love to meet some other nomads in the Loreto area. Let's do it!

Somethings weird about this whole thing Shari . You're reporting a significant # of quakes and many of them are not showing up on either the USGS site nor the situ de sismos for Mexico.

Yes it is weird because they aren't even felt 10 miles away... Only in town and close by.

That's why I guessed volcano... or maybe GODZILLA!!?

You're telling me somethings weird here???:o uhhh yeah. So on the evening of Dec.14 just before 10:00 pm we had a fairly significant quake, not enough that stuff fell off the shelves but it was felt by all and was a long one and scared everyone and lots of folks went back out to the refuge campsite. There were 5 more throughout the night as well which upset everyone. Yesterday was completely quiet which seems to be the pattern....a few days of relative quiet then a big day, then quiet again for a bit. But there is a new development....there is a place on the salt flats at the edge of town that supposedly opened up and and spewed some sand out....different sand than that which is around...I haven't looked yet myself but will go there and try to take some photos...this has got lots of folks kinda freaked out. I don't know why these quakes don't register anywhere else, perhaps because they are too small?? Is this fault so small and local that it doesn't show up other places??? I sure would like to know as would all my compañeros here. Any info is appreciated.

Gawd!

Someone should camp out there on the salt flats and try to see what kind of tentacle or flipper is pushing up sand. Might be tough to find volunteers though.:o

Message to shari

Response to Shari's last post:

Thank you for your e-mail and update.

What you are describing is exactly what I think stated before; that this is, in fact, earthquake activity along a fault and the fact that in some cases it is venting (you used the correct term) solidifies the fact. It appears that the fault is a slow moving and hence the reason for the prolonged series of quakes. It is definitely NOT a volcano in its infancy.

Many thanks again and have a great and safe holiday season Rick !

Respectfully,

jorgie,

I am only forwarding Shari's messages to Dr. Trombley. I haven't a clue about this phenomena. I will forward your message to him.

Hola quake watchers....yesterday we had such a lovely day, only one teeny tiny boom and last night I slept through the night for the first time in 23 days. But this afternoon made up for yesterday...we had 8 quakes between 4:00 and 5:30...small to medium but still enough for people to camp in their cars tonight and me to check my emergency pack again. Lots of the locals relatives who usually come for the holidays have cancelled their visits this year...chickens! I'm happy MY family IS coming, they want to feel some of this action! Figures they're related to me:tumble: enjoy the holiday season all you baja travellers, be careful and drive very carefully.

Well although the week started off with a lovely rainbow, the shaking continues...monday we had about 15 small quakes that started in the morning and lasted all day long saving the biggest boom for about 9:00 when we were just pulling the covers up....darn cold front...

Well, the holidays are upon us and my family is coming to raise our "spirits" The funny thing is we are getting used to it and haven't had a real doozie for a couple weeks. Sirena thinks it's funny how I jump or grab my chair or her arm and sqeal a bit depending how big the boom is...but I don't run outside anymore but still keep the emergency pack by the door. It's cold here today with a large swell and even sprinkled a bit this morning...I mention this so you feel better about your -40 weather!! Has your tan faded yet?? Love to all of you

I'm so glad your family is going to be there with/for you, and I'm also glad that you aren't running out the door at every boom.

Yes the tan is fading , but that's ok, hopefully we will be down at the end of April begining of May, I'll get it back then:biggrin:

Yep, we had a rock and roll day...more than 30 tremors today that I felt here. We'll be sleeping in the tent tonight for sure! Thanks for that link, I filed a report. Sure felt like more than a 4.0.
