crime
i dont know whats going on in mulege but bruce is right, crime is getting out of hand in mulege. i havent had anything walk off in 3 years, now all of
a sudden i am getting visits from banditoes every other nite. in the last two weeks i have had intrusions numorous times. they havent actually been
in my home but have gotten into my garage, my vehicles, and into my yard, even so far as to syphon the gas from my quad runners on the side of my
house, they visited my neighbor last nite and took items from his garage. . it has gotten way beyond the pail ! something really needs to be done, but
what, i dont know. the one thing that is evident in mexico, its hard to protect your property if you are not mexican, without the risk of being wrong
even if your right.

dont get mad, get even ?
im not so much mad as i am disappointed. i treat all the locals with the respect i feel they deserve and do what i can when i can for them. my wife
volunteers at the local clinic doing dental work. i have given away more than i have had stolen, i was very disappointed in the looting after the
flood and i believe cincodemayo is right, it was a window of opportunity, and it hasnt been stopped, so now it continues. like i said something needs
to be done, what i dont know, and i dont think we have, "the victoms" the power to stop it without paying a price. kinda of a slap in the face !

It's not just Gringos, my wife, who is Mexican regulary gets robbed and when I'm not looking me too and accuses me of being paranoid for being
careful!

im sorry
i didnt mean to imply thats its only gringos getting vandalized, what i did mean is its harder for us to protect whats ours without being prosicuted
for it, as in going to jail for defending your property if physical force was used.

We have a couple dinner plates left in Mulege
if you really want them! Every bit of our kitchen was thrown around in the flood. I first thought the looters took the remaining plates etc. but turns
out the security guard relocated them. I will be surprised as to what can be of value to the stuff we managed to salvage.
Do you think a punch bowl wil be ripped? How's bout some ol' coffee cups. Hell, it's there for the pickin'. My hose disappeared last week. Lots of
other stuff gone...stolen??
Thanks to those who look after each others burros.
Opportunists made off with kitchen appliances two years ago. Later they helped themselves to our water, and then they took whatever was available
after the flood.
They were not all Mexicans.
Banditos exist everywhere, some just make it lesss painful to the victim. We get robbed everyday. Like, say, the credit card companies or gas or bla
bla bla....
It's all relative;
Ya see, a ten buck blender in Baja is worth a helluva lot more than a 25 dollar service charge in the north.

the thieves, anyone see a brand new echo chain saw around ?

Don't misread me. There is a problem in Mulege! It is just exacerbated by everything that happens in such a screwy town. It's like it's a
"frontierland"mentality it seems sometimes. I really don't see the desparation upfront and firsthand while I am there so it is hard to equivocate the
thievery problem with the economy and aftermath of the flood.. Which of course has sucked since 9-11. I don't believe the bandits are the same people
that got hurt by the flood though.

i have been burglized in the states while on vacation and it was not a good feeling obviously, but to have have people on your premises while you lay
asleep in bed , especially when they know you are home, is a little scary dont you think ? where does it stop at the door ? or not ?

Damn scary Marv. The fact gringos have no guns surely emboldens them. They would be shot here in Oregon. I think that guns can be a deterent for such
crimes.
It seems the bad guys are getting worse and there is not much to stop them. Another problem is the lack of resolve of gringos to persue them thru the
laws of Mexico.

Somehow this thread has gone south...
...it was, way back when, about the Mulege Spanglish Newspaper editorial suggesting the posts from Bruce were somewhat of a dramatric nature, and in
some part inaccurate. I contend that both charges can somewhat be held in truth. Now, that being said- somehow it seems unfair to judge the
“Spanglish Newspaper” that Adrian puts out based on this one issue …Bruce’s reply to the editorial in that newspaper. If you have read every issue,
you cannot come away without being impressed with the professionalism and the integrity that this paper has shown to date. Remember this was in
Adrian’s editorial department. Be it here or the New York Times, you can say what you feel is a valid opinion in the editorial section based on the
facts you have at hand.

It is very disappointing to come down here and honestly want to help people and have this happen. I've done it and I not going to waste any more of
the precous time I have left on this earth doing it again. Anyhow look at it this way. It could have been worse, you could have been born black and
live in New Orleans and have it happen to you in your own country...?

Don't actually know Bruce, Adrain or anyone else in Mulege, only aware of them thru this forum. Bruce is very generous with his knowlege of the area
and eager to help others.

Orleans" situation was a bunch of folks living in a KNOWN flood zone getting flooded?

Cypress, no I can't say I do "know" Bruce. I have only met him once two christmas' ago. I am sure he is a decent fellow. I have see what he has
attempted to do here, as far as his good will, and it is to be commended.
Summanius, you need to take some of that impressive selection of flys out and have some fun. All that reading is making you boring. IMHO.
