B of LA Questions for April Trip

Have driven most of Baja but am heading to Bay of LA in a VW Camper with the wife for first time in over 25 years the first week in April. I would appreciate any and all *detailed* info (esp. links to websites) as the places on the www I've found aren't that helpful. Where are the best places to camp, surf fish, rent pangas w/ guide, eat, stock up, etc.? Is the ice house still there? Etc.? Thanks very, very much.

I have many photos of things to see around L.A. Bay (and other Baja destinations) on this page: http://community-2.webtv.net/vivabaja/tours/

Here is a site run by Nomad Bahia Mia that has some good information: http://www.mias-desert-art.com/bahia-info/bahia.htm

One campground (and cabins): http://www.campdaggetts.com/

One motel: http://www.villabahia.com/

Gecko's has gone full-time only. I would recommend Daggets. (See previous link) Each campsite has a palapa and if the wind is blowing (highly likely in April) he has cabins for rent as well. Ruben or one of his sons will take you fishing at reasonable prices and they rent kayaks for local exploring. When I was last there about 3 years ago he was just finishing building a restaurant so I'm sure it's open now.

Easy access to town for all supplies. If you want to fish in style, set up a trip with Igor Gavilan at Guillermos. Major high-tech panga there and when you come in sit under the palapa with a Maggie or Pacifico and watch the days catch come in. A stop at the Museum is well worth it.

This is great info. Looked up Daggets and Mia's websites and now can see that I can bring my Airstream to Bahia and live in comfort instead of sleeping in the back of my truck. Plan on visiting Mid Feb. Shall send Daggets an email to get more info.
The Bajanomad site is fantastic and I'm glad I signed on. Thanks.

There are many campgrounds along the bay besides Daggett's... He has a web site, so it makes it easy to show the place... Next to the Turtle Research station (before Daggett's on the La Gringa road) is Camp Archelon and has been talked well of here on Nomad... Also, north of Daggett's is Campo La Ventana.. and Ken Cooke and his Jeep Rubicon gang stayed there recently.

Beach Camping

There are many spots to camp, however if you plan to come down during Easter Week, expect the beaches to be pretty well full. That's the only time of year when that happens here as it is the custom in Mexico to head to the playas and of course indulge in seafood as well. So campgrounds and beaches alike will be crowded during that time.

I personally think it's fun to see everyone having a good time down here, but if you prefer a more quiet, secluded experience Easter Week is not a good time frame for that. If you like meeting lots of new folks and having more of a social experience, then it's a great time. I've met a lot of nice folks during past Semana Santas...All depends on what you are looking for.

By the way, my website URL has changed to www.bahiadelosangeles.info. You can still reach it through www.mias-desert-art.com and www.baja-desert.info for the time being. Will be posting lots of updates and additional info...

We stow our trailer at Campo Archelon - managed by Antonio and Bety - they always attract a nice (small) crowd and I highly recommend the ambience there. (They get the bio people from universities in Mexico and the US - fun folks - I learn a lot.) You can choose to be social - or not - it's all good. When needs arise - this year we had motor trouble for the first time in years - people are happy to help.

We'll be down in feb.
