Flying partners?

I have access to a light aircraft and am looking for people who would like to take flying trips to baja and share expenses.
I've flown down quite a few times. I'd like to do a couple of weekend trips for starters and maybe some longer trips later.
My plane is in San Diego so I need people who can meet me there.
I'm planning a trip to my place in San Quintin soon. It's about a 2 hour ride with a quick stop at Ensenada to clear customs. My friends at Pedregal have a really nice 3 bedroom house where I stay. It's right on the water. I'm still buiding my house.
If you are interested you can u2u me.
Thanks Mike

Hey Cap.
I started flying down in a Cherokee 6 which was a great plane for baja. My first trip was to Palmas De Cortez when they still had their runway. After that I started using a straight tail Lance which was even better. Both those planes got sold.
For San Quintin I'm going to use a Skyhawk(c172). For longer trips I have a Skylane(c182).
I found a Turbo Saratoga which I would like to use but it's very expensive and I'm not sure the owner will allow it to go to baja.
What are you flying?

Oh ya Cap. My friend with the house for rent has a van that he allows fly ins to use for runs to town. Ya, Pedragal is remote but that's the whole point. It's super quiet there and very natural.
I flew over Socorrito on one of my trips. I checked out a house for sale there right on the beach. You probably know which one.

i'm in a comanche 250, based KDVT. we fly to lopez mateo monthly with the voladeros samaritanos, phx chapter and base those trips at mulege 2 nites.
SQ is certainly a cool place to visit in the summer when you live in phx. we were at El Soccorrito last july 4th weekend after 2 nites on the cortez 1st. what a relief to take off serenidad 100 degrees 80% hum and land 2 hours later at 72!
saw your post on Sheri's place. that would be a fun trip when do you plan on going?

Ya, I spent the 4th of July at Chavato so I know what you mean.
I'm going to do a warm-up trip or two to SQL and then try Shari's. Depends on the weather I guess.
I love SOC but I do love the cool fresh breezes that come of the Pacific.
Spent some time at Puerto San Carlos and loved Mag bay. Awesome!

Fishbuck,

What would the approximate expenses be for a short trip down there?

Hi Geoff!

A trip to San Quintin or San Felipe would take about 2 hr each way so about $100 each round trip. Maybe a little less.
Where'd you have in mind?

Hey Mike,

I know very little about private planes you mentioned above......how many passengers does the plane hold? My interest is surfing and photography of the sea/landscape there, although I would be doing more surfing and my dad would be taking photos. Is it just a two-seater?

Hi Geoff,

The planes I have now are both four seaters. One is a little bigger and faster than the other. Neither is big enough to carry a surfboard. I may have access to a Piper Turbo Saratoga which is a six seater and the back 4 seats are removable for cargo but I'm not sure about that plane yet.
I know there is some good surf around San Quintin but I haven't had time to explore for it yet.
There is a guy Kelly Catian who runs surf trips there this time of year. We could fly down and go on one of his trips. I'm sure he has boards.
I'll post more info if I find it.

Hey Fishbuck and Capt. Mike,

Thanks for the info. I'll talk to my father and see what works for his schedule. Fishbuck, do you have any particular dates in mind?

As far as surfboards go....I ride a board that is 6'5" and weighs about 6 pounds.....not at all like the longboards of yesteryear. Not sure if that makes a difference or not.

Regardless, a weekend photo trip would still be great! Let me know your thoughts.

Hey Geoff

6 pounds is super light but weight isn't the issue. Boards are just to long.
I'm planning a trip about mid-Feb and another in March.
It all depends on the weather this time of year. No point in going if it isn't sunny and warm.
I'm open to just about any date.

Mike

That would be fun! Bills houses are way cool. He built a hanger for his plane. My lots aren't big enough for a hanger so I'll leave my plane by the runway.
For sure I want to tag along with you on a trip south.
