celebrate VALENTINES DAY IN BAJA?.
With all the advertising starting here, I wondered - do you OR not.
Is it custom in Mexico? AND how do all the Nomad's enjoy this day? What goodies, OR SPECIAL TREATS, beside flowers is your sweetheart getting?

valentines day here is pretty big people give heart shape candy and lollipops and little cards and stuff like that...couples ussualy get roses or
teddy bears hehe or something like that but we do celebrate...there are big dances and stuff like that so be ready to party!!!!

I have not had the pleasure yet of spending Valentines Day in Mexico. St Valentine was a Roman Noble who is said to have refused to denounce her faith
in Christ and was devoured by lions. I have had my share of devouring by lionesses, but no Mexican Valentine stories yet. I'll let you know after the
great day!
I see lots of preparations taking place for this day. Hearts, flowers, candies, the works. I have yet to find good chocolate in Mexico, save for that
used in the chocolate drink used for breakfast here. That is delicious!!
I have not yet experienced Valentine Day Amore but did have some really good somores the other night, does that count?
Love!!! What a great thing to devote a day to, maybe we should consider prolonging the holiday to at least a week.

In México (you know how we are) we celebrate the entire month of February, it is called "El Mes del Amor y la Amistad", the month of love and
friendship, Feb. 14 Dia de San Valentin is called Dia del Amor y la Amistad, so everyone showes theire signs of love and affection that day not just
sweethearts, even though it is special for those in love or those under said influence. Those that are anywere in México this month can see the stores
are dressed with red hearts and decorations, the radio does'nt stop advertising something to the effect. As for the question of chocolates, there are
plenty and incredibly good, Sees IMHMO is far behind some of them http://www.cacaochocolate.com/
This one is close to our home and Mrs. ferna loves it.

You are right.
Some experts state that it originated from St. Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity. He died on February 14, 269
A.D., the same day that had been devoted to love lotteries. Legend also says that St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer's daughter, who
had become his friend, and signed it "From Your Valentine". Other aspects of the story say that Saint Valentine served as a priest at the temple
during the reign of Emperor Claudius. Claudius then had Valentine jailed for defying him. In 496 A.D. Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 to honour
St. Valentine.
Gradually, February 14 became the date for exchanging love messages
I recall the story from the perspective of the girl, whose love was lost in the tragedy of this story.

Now, given that there are indeed good Chocolates in Mexico, we may have to prolonge our stay.
By the way. I see now cafe's and coffe bars in various towns. I had a cup in La Paz as good as anything I have tasted in the Pacific Northwest, and
that's saying a lot.
I was wondering if any of these places made Moca with Mexican Chololate. You know, the kind kids drink for breakfast. The one with cinnamon and Sugar.
I love Chocolate and coffee, I don't know if they have it down here and if so what I might call it?

BTW - Europe is focusing much more on FLOWERS together with Chocolate in Boxes.
For Lovers, Couples, it is also with kinda Victorias Secret Stuff.

If you are in Loreto go to the "El Nido" and ask Domingo to fis you something Special--He Will do Good.
I have Had nay great Valentines Dayss in Loreto- Especially since it is also our Anniverisary!! Married 20 years ago in Reno, Nevada on Feb.14th to
the most wondefull Girl in the World.
This year, not being in Baja I have Reservations at a very Classy Italian Reatruant in Amarillo--But Oh! what fun we have had in the Past at the El
Nido.

El Dia de Amistad Y Amor is muy special for my husband and I as it is our anniversary too...sort of, it's when we changed from being friends to
lovers! It is a truly wonderful holiday here as everyone hugs everyone they see all day... so even thoes who don't have sweethearts still cash in! by
the way, it's usually a "hug and a handshake" here...that's why after the hug they stick their hand out.

Okay, Nomads, I need your help here! I was HOPING Valentine's was celebrated here. We teach English in a rural elementary school. We only do it
once week but it does give these kids a head start (we hope!). I was thinking next week we'd do a "craft" project of making a Valentine for someone
you love. All your advice and suggestions are welcome - just remember we are teaching English! I tend to speak in Spanish to the kids which pretty
much undermines everything I'm trying to do in the classroom! But, we'd love to hear your ideas -- oh, we are talking about 3rd graders by the way!

bajabound! -NOW that is a great idea, can't figure really the age of 3rd Graders ( different schoolsystem here in Austria) - so tell me age and I
could come up with some ideas ( have 2 nephews and 2 little nieces).
