Medical Evacuation Service

Does anyone have any experience with any of the expensive medical air evacuation services? I've been looking at a number of them but don't know how to choose. My family and I spend a lot of time in the San Juanico area and it's pretty far to a good hospital and my wife wants something, especially for the kids.

I just joined the Binational Medical cooperation nonprofit group, but we're looking for something more robust.

Thanks!

You are wise to think ahead.

This is for you and anyone reading this thread. First, check with your US health insurance...many have provisions for foreign evacuations...air and ground... that you might not be aware of. Celia Diaz at Binational Emergency Medical Care Committee will coordinate with your insurance and the two countries to get you out. I would get her recommendation as to repuatable air evac services...she has dealt with all of them and knows how they operate.

She has told me of incidents of different clinics who have "hidden" her clients from her when she was trying to get them evactuated but the clinics wanted to hang onto them. Talk to her about the San Juanicao area...she'll let you know what is available and who to trust.

Two years ago last month Celia coordinatated a very successful 2:00am air rescue when my mother was injured in Gonzaga. The provider in this case was the U.S. Coast Guard, because the area was too remote for ground transport or a commercial air evac company.

I hope this helps...

Jeans,

Thank you very much for that advice. It was the Binational Emergency Medical Care Committee that I mentioned I had joined. I will ask her for a recommendation and experiences.

Best,

Joel
