Response to......."It's only the desert"

I wrote most of this poem a few years back but was never happy with it and could not find a finish that fitted.............Today in reading the post by tripledigitken and others & viewing the pictures I was able to finish it......Hope you enjoy it. My thanks to the folks who allowed me to finish it.

A Baja Desert

I am an enigma, a paradox
and surely a challenge

Moments are long
But never empty in my land

History as vague as my terrain
Shrouded in a fog

Prickly pear fences remain
Adobe structures melted in the rain

A palm survives to prove
Water lies close to the surface

Missions melted into mere humps of adobe
Others disappear completely

Truth is only truth
To those who care

Horns of the big horn sheep
Arched over its bleached and sand-pitted skull

The wail of a wild cat
The shadow of a mule deer

Quail flushed from the greasewood
Prove water is nearby

Twisted cacti writhing across sandy ground
Lizards basking in the sun

The Gardens of Catavina
A magical, golden dawn

Huge boulders
Scattered

As if by a god!

Bernie ......
I wish I'd said that. Thanks for everything.

Just a suggestion.......... Put something between the last line of your poem and your name. It kinda runs together.

Thanks,

Will that work?

Poems do not fit to well with this format.....or is it only that I don't understand how to manipulate the system.

That works, Bernie. Just thought I'd mention it before someone questions your modesty.

Bernie,

Glad you finished your work. Very nicely done. It paints a picture every bit as vivid as the photos here.

Thanks,

Ken
