Oasis of Stone

At David K's recent recommendation I ordered the Baja California Sur coffee table book "Oasis of Stone" by Miguel Angel de la Cueva (photos) and Bruce Berger (text). I just went through it for the first time and I think it is an absolute masterpiece. de la Cueva's photos are magnificent and Berger's prose is moving and poetic. I think de la Cueva uses late afternoon golden light better than anyone I have seen, and his photos of cactus are sensory overloads. For those of you who have it, take a look at the photos on p. 87 and 90 and see if you like them as much as I do. These two authors are in love with BCS and it shows in their images and words. This book should be on every Baja lover's coffee table.

Thanks for the recommendation Ken. I was thinking of driving down to Discover Baja and checking out the book before purchasing. The few pages David showed looked very professional and inspiring. Some looked as though a fair amount of filtration had been used.

P.S. there's an Ansel Adams exhibition here in Santa Ana starting this weekend. One hundred of his best prints.

Glad to hear your positive opinion...

Based on David K's recommendation, I ordered the publication yesterday. I'm looking forward to reviewing it in person. Zoe

Also an exibit of Annie Liebowitz Photographs through April at the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego (Balboa Park). You'll be amazed at how many of them you recognize.
Many from years of being the cover shot on Rolling Stone.

Bruce Berger will be at the book signing event at Baja Books and Maps in San Jose del cabo this Sunday. So I think this is where we'll pick up our copy of Oasis of Stone.

I am so happy that you also found it to be a great work... Baja is beautiful and it does photograph well as we have seen so often!
