Prez Day '07: Just Back... La Turquesa Short Cut View
Hi gang!
Baja Angel and I just got back tonight from 3 days in Baja...
See the Nomad Baja Trip Reports Forum in a couple days for the details and PHOTOS...
Until then, here is a quick summary:
FRI. Crossed border (TJ) at 4 pm... Traffic heavy to the toll (scenic) road... Next time... Otay and Blvd. 2000 road!!!
Dinner at Half Way House with another Chef Johnny masterpiece of cooking!
Arrive Baja Cactus before 10 pm... Visited with Antonio...
SAT... To La Turquesa Shortcut (Kacey Smith's XR Ride/ Coco's Shortcut)... It's a road... and looks like any tough Jeep trail one sees in the
desert... Hey Ken Cooke!!!
Drive back to Mex. 1 and on to Chapala and up to Gonzaga Bay by 6 pm... Stayed at Campo Beluga... NICE!!!!
SUN... Head north to Shell Island (Gas at Gonzaga)... Beautiful but windy day...
SUN. PM VERY WINDY!!!! Not much sleep in my tent...
MON. (today): Visit with Baja Rob and Connie at Bahia Santa Maria, then head north (Mexicali East 45 min. line at 5:15 pm)
RAIN in San Diego County tonight!!!
That's all for now... Check Trip Reports in a day of two!
Viva Baja Everyone!!!!

Hi David, welcome back. Nice quick trip you made there. Where is the La Turquesa shortcut road and where does it lead to?
How was the road from MX-1 through Gonzaga on to Shell Island?

The SAME boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg. It's about what you are made of NOT the circumstance.

Hi David, did you go down the East side to the wash? That is definatly the tough side, I have never looked at it from a 4-wheelers perspective.
Chase Trucks? ??
We don\'t need no stinking chase trucks!

Hi Bob,
We talked about it in the Off Road forum... It has been called Coco's Shortcut and Kacey Smith's XR Ride (from her GPS guidebook)...
I have details in my trip report... GPS and photos! It seems very passable in a small 4WD with a little rock moving perhaps... at least the upper
half... I hiked over mile down the grade... Okay, here's one photo!

I went in from Hwy. 1 (Pedregoso area) to the high point (view point)... and hiked down over a mile... at least halfway!
