Bayrunner 23?
Hi all,
I've been lurking around here for a bit and thought I would join up. This seems like a good site with lots of good baja folks on board. After
travelling in baja for many years, we moved our family down here for good about three years ago. It's not without challenges but we love it.
I'm looking for a 21' or 23' Bayrunner Baja and was hoping to come up with some leads. Anyone out there want to sell one or know of one for sale?

Hook - Thanks, I saw that one but by the time I got there it was gone. I've been searching online, without much luck. Thought I would try here to see
what I came up with.
Bob - Sound advice, for sure. But, alas, Valco went belly up a few years ago. Klamath is producing the bayrunner line but a 23' is not on their list.
I'm confident the right boat will come along.

Hi Merlin!
Welcome to the board. Where are you located? I've got a friend w/a Baja for sale, but it's in Alaska right now. He may be moving it to the Seattle
area soon, but the cost to float it down to the lower 48 on a barge is around $4,000, and I think he's been hoping to find a buyer up north if
possible.

Cameron,
Thanks for the info. I guess it's all about dollars and cents, isn't it. At the very least, I would love to learn more. My brother lives in Seattle
and I'm overdue for a visit. You never know.
How do I learn more?

Thanks to David I scored a great 23' Bayrunner. The boat needs a little TLC but I'm stoked and have her home. I'm building a launching dolly now and
will have her in the water soon. Next up is a new floor. Great baja boat!

Yes, we are beach launching. It's all we've got.
Ok, the launching dolly is the single axle deal you see all the pangeros using, except we added a little twist. Where I'm at there is a fair amount of
surf to go through and it's very shallow for a long way out so launching off a trailer is very difficult, even with the third wheel. So, I made a
single axle with two small bunks (maybe three feet long). Then I added a receiver hitch (like the one on your truck) to the axle. Now you take a long
extension (ten or twelve feet depending on the boat length), one end slides into the receiver and one end has a coupler for your ball hitch. Tow her
down to the beach (slowly) and when you get there just unpin the extension, remove the tounge and put it to the side, then roll the boat right into
the water. As soon as you hit a small wave you float off the axle and off you go. Picture the Egyptians moving rocks - the axle sits at the sweet spot
(center of gravity) under the boat so you can easily tilt the bow up or down. The beach is sloped towards the water so once you take the chocks out
from the wheels she will roll right into the water. In other words, apply a litte physics and let gravity do the work for you. Retrieval is exactly
the opposite except I pull her out of the water with my old toyota 4wd.
I hope this all makes sense. When I get it finished I'll try to post some photos. I really went all out on this one - galvanized metal, bearing
buddies, etc. It is by far the best way to launch a boat here, easy and safe (for both the boat and crew). A man's gotta go fish'n afterall!

Thanx for the details, I get most of it except...once I launch the boat my dolly is now ..underwater? I assume you pull/tow it up onto the beach
where it waits until the boat returns. The you roll it back into the water , load the boat onto it and pull it out with the 4x4. How do you attach
to the dolly/boat when pulling from the water? Is the extension in place then, or after you get onto the beach? Looking forward to the photos.

You got it, once you float off you just pull it up on the beach. I have a long rope attached so upon return you can tow the boat in with a truck. The
dolly attaches to the boat with ratchet ties so it doesn't move out of position. It really is a sweet set up. I'll get pictures soon.
