Capt. Mike,
Sorry to hear the news. He seemed like a very nice man and will be missed. He told us he never wanted PSF to turn into another Gonzaga Bay. Hopefully
whoever takes his place will hold to the same standards.
Our condolences to his familia, and to those who knew him well.

I just talked with him a few weeks ago he was going in for some operation but said he would be fine. I know he has been in Tijuana with his wife for a
few months because of being sick. This is very sad indeed. He was a very nice man.
And he will be missed.

I think I remember him from the time I boated in to PSFQ from BOLA in the mid 90s. Charry was still there, too. We radioed the resort and they came
over to the cala with a big stakebed truck. We loaded our ice chests and fuel cans, climbed in and headed over. Had a lunch of about three smallish
burrito for 11.00us and the beers were 3.00us as I recall. Pricey, but, hey it's a remote location.
We actually thought the fuel and ice were a bargain. It was only about .25/gallon more than Diaz was charging at the time.
Hope the resort continues, as is. Really want to get back there by boat. No offense, Mike, but it is the BEST way to get to PSFQ. Bout 50 miles by
water from the ramp at Guillermo's.

Herman Brix died on Saturday. He was 100.
One might remember him as Bruce Bennett (prospector Cody in Treasure of Sierra Madre, 1948). This was a movie based on a novel by B. Traven, one of
Mexico's greatest writers.
He was a 1928 Olympian and played in the 1926 Rose Bowl for the University of Washington.
I remember him as Tiny in the Republic serial of 1938, Daredevils of the Red Circle....

one of the best movies of all time, where was most of it filmed? really on location sets? always wondered. love the mexican bad guys too. truly the
type cast for all the genre that followed and when my non mexico traveling friends have a bad guy mexican in their mental movie vision - that's what
they think are down there. what a hoot.
this is relevent if any of you remember the original bar room at PSFO - there was a large photo picture, bigger than poster size, above the bar with
Genaro's dad and uncle, the resorts owners and developers, dressed in pancho villa regalia resplendent in their sombreros and bandalleros with hand
guns drawn. a classic. he was so proud of that picture - and then one year they took all the memoriabilia out of the bar - all gone! i asked why, who
took it and never could get a straight answer. oh well.

several great times at his place! the first time we showed up and charry was gone we were a dissapointed, but how bad can you feel when your in PSF!
anyways.... after diner me and a buddy asked to use his sat phone to call the wives. he took us to this back room with one swinging light bulb from
a wire, he sat down behind a desk, smoking a huge cigar, and watched me make my call. when i was done and pressed "end" to stop the call, the timer on
the phone read 3:03 I had gone over to be billed for 4 minutes but only got to talk for 3 (just like our cell phones). He thought that was so funny,
he started pointing at me and laughing and puffin on his cigar and leaning back in his chair and laughing. with the light swinging over us in this
dark little room it felt like something out of an old western where the cowboys had to deal with some crooked old bandido. anyway a couple of years
later we all came back, and after diner he came up to me and said "so you wanna use the phone" slapped me on the back and started laughing. he will
be missed. hope to see charry again soon

Photo of Genaro
Here is a picture of Genaro about 17 years ago at the old bar at PSF. That's a young me 'Stickers' having a couple cold ones after flying in from
Upper California.
He fancied himself a boxer at that time and would go jogging out across the desert in the morning for his training. You can see his boxing gloves
hanging in the picture.
Genaro was a great host and I always liked staying at PSF when he was there. As many of you will remember the drinks at the bar were on the honor
system, you just put a mark next to your name every time you pulled something out of the fridge.
I will miss him.
