Tourist visa extension is new priority
Wire services
El Universal
Jueves 29 de marzo de 2007
President Felipe Calderón said Wednesday that he will make it easier for foreigners to stay longer as he seeks to promote tourism and business
investment.
Speaking in Acapulco, the granddad of Mexican tourist resorts, Calderón said tourists would automatically get permission to stay for 180 days, and the
process to get visas to stay for years would be fast tracked. Under the present rules, most tourists are given up to 90 days to stay in Mexico and
have to go to a special office to get that extended.
"I believe in tourism because it´s the economic activity that is going to bring Mexico the most profit and generate the most jobs," Calderón said.

I thought the max stay was already 6 months.

Calderon is starting to look like a very savvy guy in dealing with the problems of Mexico.
Makes complete sense. Encourage investment, bring more money into the country, create jobs, reduce emigration.
What's next.....fee simple ownership of land by foreigner within the coastal strip?
Agree with Art....what's this 90 day business?

The current max stay is 180 days and we attempted to get an extension to complete some business but were told that at this point it was not possible
to get an extension. If we wanted another FMT, we needed to go to the border for 24 hours and then reenter. FM3 here we come

Ah, Pescador, the adventure begins. Hope you don't have to deal with the Ensenada office.

You can forget about higher education. Now all Mexico has to do is to teach their kids how to make beds, clean toilets and serve dinner.
