USA Licensed Tax Preparer - La Paz??

Does anyone know of a USA Licensed tax preparer in La Paz?? The ones I've seen advertising in the Gringo Gazette are in Cabo & I'd really prefer to deal with someone closer to home!

The recent (Uhhhhh...to ME!) :bounce: requirements to report fideicomisos as well as reporting the 2006 sale of my La Paz residence is more of a concern & confusing to me than the requirement to report bank accounts over $10K; the TDF 90-22.1 seems pretty straight-forward to me. But I'd really like to get legal on past years fideicomisos.

Anyone know of someone in La Paz that you'd recommend? :?::?:

Don't know if this will help you, but my wife Leslie works for HR Block. You can U2U us and perhaps she can answer or research your question. Don't know if she could help you via internet but maybe worth thinking about. I'll tell her to keep an eye for an e-mail from you.

osoflojo

I contacted Don Nelson via his ad in the Gringo Gazette...it took a week for his secretary to get back to tell me....

"We are extremely busy now with tax return deadlines - if you can hold off and get back to us next month, we will be able to help you. Don charges a minimum of $600 for getting a tax ID number for the foreign trust and then preparing the two 3520 forms, and there is a real risk in filing it late for the older ones that the IRS may want to assess penalties."

I've sent another another message requesting clarification as to whether they're talking $600 USD or $600 pesos, though I fear it's USD!:wow::wow::wow: Which is WAY OUTTA my financial ballpark!:( Apprehensively awaiting a response.

No problem Osoflojo!!! I'd already sent him an e-mail BEFORE you tossed his name in the ring! I just hadn't heard back from him for about a week, so figured I wouldn't!

He's obviously priced for the high-buck Cabo crowd & has to charge more to cover his ads in the Gringo Gazette!

We paid for a phone consultation with Don Nelson a couple of years ago to get some foreign real estate/ fideicomiso/ Us tax info. We had him do our taxes that year because of a Central American property sale and purchase and it cost about $75 more than our regular guy usually charged, but this didn't include any 3520 filings.

We were satisfied with his service but have since gone back to using our regular tax preparer who is readily available to answer questions throughout the year and more accessible close to tax time if you need him.

Don runs a one-man office and his secretary is his wife. He gets really busy this time of year as you discovered L.L. I wonder if his prices are high because he's a tax attorney or if that's the going rate for filing your 3520's and tax ID? Or maybe he's tapped in to a specialty niche that others aren't familiar with and can charge whatever he wants?

We may use him again in a couple of years if necessary when Baja is our primay residence because he is very familiar with ex-patriate tax issues.

I recall he said his daughter lives in Cabo which may be another reason he has some clients there.
