TV dish for Baja ???
We have Direct TV at our home in the US and a satelite dish on our RV where we also receive Direct TV. But we were told that Direct TV could not be
received while in Baja so we cancelled service for our Winter's stay in Baja.
But while in Baja, we noticed LOTS of dishes and wonder what Services offer TV reception both in Baja and in the states. Appreciate any information.

I have DirecTV in Baja at my Beach House and have so for 10 years now. Never an interuption of service in all of that time. As far as DirecTV is
concerned the dish is on an R.V. that is used in the California desert.
They don't like the M (Mexico) word because of pirating some years ago.
Haven't had a bad trip yet....

Your DirecTV coverage in Baja depends on how far South you go. There is no loss of channels as far South as San Felipe, but I don't know at what
point you begin to lose some channels. There are others on the board who work in Baja installing and maintaining the system and they can, no doubt,
give you a more informed answer to the coverage.

What zip code would you use to catch the signal? I have the portable dish I use in my RV and would like to take it down and use it at my townhouse
between Rosarito and TJ. Any suggestions on how to set it up?

For Direct TV in Rosarito, use these numbers:
Azimuth= 151.8
Elevation= 48.4
With these numbers to start with and a good Sat meter you'll have a strong signal. I have both Dish and Direct TV here in Ensenada.

Aiming is fine but below Ensenada, you will probably need a 1.8 meter dish. The smaller dishes just do not cut it that far south. The real expert on
this situation is LosFrailes@hughes.net

I have and use Dishnetwork. On my motorhome and at my house in Bahia de Los Angeles and my house in Orange County. The motorhome has the small
elyptical dish and it works fine down to about Catavina, but after that the signal strength gets pretty weak. At the house in BOLA I have a small 18"
stationary dish that I run coax to and it works pretty good. I also have a 1.8 meter stationary dish and it works great.

Where can one get a one meter dish for Directv. Plastic preferred. Our smaller dish works down to about Catavina and did pick up a playoff game in
BOLA last Jan. But down here in Mulege we need the bigger dish. Would like to bring one down next winter for the palapa.

We were mostly near Mulege and farther south. But we did notice other campers with dishes that were getting reception. I didn't notice if they had
any special dishes. Do any other of the dish services work any better (than Direct TV)?? If the size of the dish is the main factor, can they
(larger dishes) be installed on the wind-up RV roof mount?? We went the whole winter without hearing any news and would love to get some reception
next year.

Free TV receptionis nice but we are not in the 20th century anymore and inasmuch as I already have the portable satellite dish and the satellite box
(and pay for the service every month), it would be nice to have the option of using them in northern Baja in addition to when camping stateside while
I decide if I want to put up a permanent dish or not. I think if I did it would be to also get high speed internet via satellite.

I got my portable dish at Camping World. It folds up and has a lightweight carrying case (purchased separately). I think it is at least a meter in
diameter.

Here is a picture of a 1.8 meter dish that comes from Jalisco, it is Mexican made and does a fine job.
Cost layed in to Mulege would be around 4100 pesos.
Antenna will be about 2900 pesos and the freight 1200 pesos.
