Hey JR, Harpy Birthday!
He would be having a field day with all these new folks and topics. He made for a great resident antagonist. Sort of an "antagonists' antagonist".
Sometimes it's a lonely place tho.

Hope his bamboo is flourishing.......
RIP

JR, maybe a future saint of Baja
Yes, I miss him, too.
He raged against going out into the night (not good paraphrasing of the poet, but too lazy to look it up).
I never met him, but I was alternately entranced and appalled by his willingness to take on all comers who objected to his bicultural perspective on
the changing times in Baja.
I wish someone would distill his contributions to the board and publish a book.

is a "harpy birthday" significant in some way? Is that different from say a "happy birthday? Either way, JR, you were da man.

The main thing I realized about JR is that he was a totally differrent person when you met him face to face. What a great guy he was. He loved to
stir the pot. I really miss him.

Wiki:
The literal meaning of the word seems to be "whirlwinds".
That he certainly was!
..
American Heritage Dictionary (här'pee) Pronunciation Key
n. pl. Har·pies
1. Greek Mythology One of several loathsome, voracious monsters with the head and trunk of a woman and the tail, wings, and talons of a bird.
2. A predatory person.
..
No, not #1
#2 He'd pray on particular behavior he found offensive to Baja and the people there.
Then he'd give all he could to those who needed it. Quite a guy! He certainly gave me fodder for thought.
This board is short w/o him.

I didn't know jr. It was before my time but, I've been going back through his posts and I'm beginning to realize my loss for not knowing him.
I'm going to make it a project to start at the beginning. Getting there will be a project in itself and hopefully I can save my place when I take
breaks from the 4000+ posts in his legacy.
As I said, I didn't know him but, I already miss him as though I did.

Took my cue from you, DENNIS, and started looking at JR's posts (again). It's great that the man lives on in these forums. While I never met him, it's
not hard to feel as if I know him. I hope and trust his family sees this outpouring of genuine affection for the man.

Bob H--you're so right!
At one of Tucker's parties, I talked for a while with this friendly, interesting, totally pleasant guy (with, incidentally, the great eyes and the
really good hair), and when he told me he was JR on the Nomad board my first thought was No, you can't be.
