What's the #1 reason for people to visit Baja?
Just thinking about the many reasons that draw people to relocate/vacation in Baja?

We went to a meeting last year for tour companies and they had a very interesting graph.
By income the number one category was food and drink, number 2 was golf , number
3 was sport fishing and number 4 was all other activities lumped together. I was surprised about golf being ahead of fishing but it is a total dollar
amount.

Judy, was this survey Mexico specific, Baja specific, BajaSur specific or just tourism in general?

I kinda thought that it was at least BajaSur specific. Just not that many golf courses north of the Cape.
I have seen a couple surveys on golf in the US in recent years and it has been a declining sport, even with the rise of the greatest player to have
ever played. Ratings are generally up but players are down. Never did catch on huge with baby boomers and many listed it as being just too expensive.
Fishing aint cheap but atl least you can split expenses fairly easily.
Food and drink............what a shallow reason to go on vacation. I think it is more the cultural experience that INCLUDES eating and drinking.

For me, it's the ocean on both sides, especially the Sea. Fishing is big, but the boating is just as big a draw.
Without that, I probably wouldnt visit Baja more than once every few years. The desert southwest in the US has some nice areas, too.

I think #1 is a dumbass response to marketing, followed by lots of eating and drinking, in special habitats that insulate vacationers from local
culture, such as huge hotels, nightclubs, and Authentic Mexican Villages
Fishing is high, but is being phased out. Fishermen are too demanding.

Maybe the prediction by a prominent fisherman resident of the East Cape will come true. He claimed a few years ago that Mexico will strip her oceans
of fish and to pacify the resorts dependent on sportfishing, they will legalize gambling.
