Invitation to Sharksbaja

Sharks, something good has to come from this new fishing reg. They can't use all the bycatch for catfood. Couldn't we buy some of it, start some specialty food franchises down here? How about "Marlin King" or "Mahi, Mahi, Burger, Burger, Pepsi, Pepsi" (too long?) Eat not with the Colonel but with The Admiral. How about "Big Bills", "Sailfish Patty's", Dough Ra Dough Sandwiches. With my connections and your restaurant savvy we could be the new Crock's.(sp)

Surimi burgers anyone?

No thanks Osprey.

I bout gag everytime they grind up the local herring to make surimi paste two blocks away.. It is easy to make I think. Just need a grinder. If you ever saw this blend you might give up seafood altogether. :barf::barf::barf:

Thank god it ends up on the other side of the planet.
Problem is......they will actually buy this mashed up fish stuff for eating. OOPS! I let the catfood out of the bag......

I think you should think about the big picture, when all that bycatch becomes a thing of the past.

How about making molds from the fish while they're still around, then when the time is right, use those molds to make fish lookalikes out of soy?

Then, you could have handy one of those fighting chairs like I've seen at the Fred Hall shows- that tourists can sit in and hold the rod in their fish belt, flip on the flat screen and fight their virtual sport fish till they boat their catch.

At that point you can flip open the lid to the giant cooler and pull out a soydorado for a photo op. Another option could be the tourist then walks over to the weigh in scale and poses next to their soymarlin still jiggling as it's hung by it's tail.

The mesquite grill could be all fired up and ready to slap some of that fish on, tortillas, while the tourists sip on a cold, but not too cold beer and swap stories as to how much fun it was an how easy it was to reel that monster in without the hassle and mess of the "good old days".

You could offer to filet and wrap up the remainder of their bounty while they're off to the golf course, and have their photos ready as well as the dvd recording of their sportfishing adventure of a lifetime upon their return.

Paulina, you're hired. Have to change the soydorado thing because the Mexicans would be laughing their heads off at "I am dorado". I think on some levels we're half way there. I swear I've seen some salt water flies bigger than owl's wings trolling behind these local charter cruisers. I did some business once with the Giggling Marlin but never went through the front door. Must be a scary place when they hang some of those helfty female anglers wearing mumus downside up.

Sorry, no anchovy or sardines. We have to save those for the tuna pens.

For the new business, I was thinking of how one could use all the gear that will be of surplus, starting with the gold reels. With a little Mexicaneering, they could be fashioned into toilet paper holders for the restrooms.

Sharks,

Using the fake o fish molds for Gyotaku, you'd be saving what would have become a lost art. Great idea!
