Memorial border mess
Last night I crossed the border northbound with very light traffic. But the southbound was gridlocked from the milatary checkpoint, clear to the
border, probably 3 miles or so. I`m guessing just getting from the border to that checkpoint was close to an hour. This was 6:30 PM and I know it`s TJ
rush hour with workers returning home, and traffic from the 3 day weekend, but if a guy was going south of Rosarito Beach, would the new Otay/Popotla
road be better? Or is it just as bad? Anyone know how much time it takes to cross the border (SY) and get past that checkpoint?

The new Otay road would be FAR better. There is still a military checkpoint just as you are coming out of OM but it's in a better location (not where
2 major highways merge) so the traffic flow remains pretty constant without the kind of backup you see on the other road. And you don't have to pay
all those tolls! Southbound, a SENTRI pass doesn't do you any good.

The new road is longer and sometimes slower all things being equal, On a Friday night, I will always take it . . The new road is another option in
the getting there guessing game.

bajabound2005, I should have been more detailed in answering, as the Yes was to the choice of his taking Otay/Popotla road. Now the Sentri is still
when you come back using that same road and crossing at Otay. So, as I said before I just love that Sentri card as sooner or later what goes South
turns back to coming North.

We love that SENTRI pass, too!!! Mike99km, why do you say the new road is longer and slower? Seems to take a good 20 minutes off coming or going!
There has been little to no traffic on it whenever we've used it; 'cept for that dead horse in the road westbound just before landing in Popotla (last
week).
