New deadly Hwy 1 stretch.
The 5 mile stretch of Hwy 1 between Nopolo and Loreto claimed another life yesterday. That puts up the 4th cross since the inception of Loreto Bay.
It's dead straight, but the traffic has skyrocketed in the last few years, with lots of very slow dumptrucks , heavy equipment, personal buses and
vehicles going to Loreto Bay. Also businesses have sprung up alongside the Hwy, with turning traffic adding to the danger. Lots of folks, traveling
through, insist on doing their 60 to 70 mph. making this stretch very dangerous. It needs some kind of solution, but the Mexican HP doesn't seem too
interested. Needs 4 lanes and lots more signs and Cops presence with radar and "pricey"ticketing. Nomads ,if you have to drive this stretch on your
way through "BEWARE" .

I think I remember that streach...60 KMH and I had to that and a little more to keep from getting rearended...I know it was coming into Loreto from
the south.

Ever hear of DARWIN ???
How many poeple travel that road every day with no problems ? 99.9% ?
4 in how many years ??
That's not good but unfortunately, it's not out of the ordinary.
That road is more dangerous than a stroll in Ensenada !!!!
Some times I miss JR more than others. This is one of those times.
Seems to be a day for "chicken coop'ers" !

Ed, do you know who was killed?
That isn't exactly a straight stretch, it's just that the curves are vertical. A lot of blind dips in that road, and you can't really see what's
coming, even though it looks clear.
Maybe some new signs with this icon would help:

actually van should have written the fourth cross in two weeks. the incidence of fatal collisions on that stretch should be included in one of the
many increasing Loreto Road Hazards

| Well Pam.
Like I said ,it's since the inception of Loreto Bay that the traffic on this stretch has multiplied hundredfold. Lot of their people live in town and
don't forget their laborcamp on the San Javier Road. The point I'm trying to make is, for folks that travel this stretch on their way through, should
be made aware of the danger. Most were used to getting through here at their usual 60 to 70 mph.and many are still doing that. The road has several
hidden vados and we watch people continuous passing on those stretches. I know it's frustrating to have to drive behind 30mph traffic ,but being
impatient will bring your and other people's lives in play, which has happened here in the last couple of years. And it's getting only worse. As for
Diver's remarks, totally irrelevant. Darwin Just hope
you never have to bury a friend because of a traffic accident. And no chicken cooper here, whatever that means. JR was never to clear on that.
Generalized on that pretty much. Miss him though.

Van I was making a joke being faceous (if that's how ya spell it)
Yes it is very dangerous and you're preaching to the chior here. I have to cross that road several times a day as I live in Miramar. There are
places where I don't cross and the speeding trucks and cars have the logos of the constructions companies building loreto bay and those of loreto bay
themselves. The most dangerous hours on that deadly stretch of road are: 5:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. southbound, and from 5pm to 7pm northbound.
the last fatal head on occured when the man who died saw a car coming straight on form him in his lane. he had no escape and went off the road,
flipped and died in the crash. my secretary is related to this guy somehow and she told me that doctors say he had a heart attack right before the
collision. I don't know how the hell these doctors can know this when they constantly misdiagnose ailments and do not have any of the support
equipment to make this determination.

Me, personally, I really appreciate any kind of information of this sort. We have not been down that far south in quite a while and would not know
about the increase in traffic, new businesses, etc. on this portion of MX-1.
Thank you very much!

"That whole CCG'er thing. I've watched for a long time w/o commenting on how weak that is in deference to any of a certain windy dead guy's
friends/relatives who may read here but it seems to me that that saying just gets thrown out there like it actually means anything. Lemmings calling
other people irrellevant."
What?
Chickencoopers are a bunch of people who sit on their behinds - like chickens sitting on their nests - and bock, bock, bock, bock at each other all
day. Not really getting off their hind ends, just sitting on their nests, and squawking.
I didn't know lemmings called anyone anything and they don't have anything to do with relevancy (or not). Lemmings are followers. Running with the
pack without individual thinking.
It's pretty obvious that something needs to be done along that stretch of the road after 4 fatalities. Signage for sure - "despacio", "precaution",
"50", "peligroso".
Apparently a new hazard with all the construction and people, and the highway and signs should keep up. Topes, turn lanes, turnouts, arrows. LB and
the construction companies should pay for it. For starters, the roadside businesses could put up hand painted signs on the side of the road, and a
tope here and there.

JR was abundantly clear on what that meant. Wilderone is pretty much right on except. Bock, bock, bock..... should be peck, peck, peck, at each
other, then when one really gets on another one they all jump on him too. JR was very amused by this, and the fact at how serious many here took his
comments. He pretty much was laughing constantly while he typed. RIP JR

This road has claimed more lives yesterday. I am not clear on the story but an accident claimed multiple lives including two children one of them who
was literally ripped apart (2 years old). The highway was covered in blood. The cause I am unsure of at this time but it involved one of the
construction company trucks that is building Loreto Bay. I understand the family who suffered fatalities may be from out of town but the driver
responsible is a Loretano (Juncalitoan) and is in jail. He is the husband of the lady that cleans my hme and watches my kids during the high season,
also family of ours. I';m sure this will make it to the papers tomorrow it was serious enough.
The velocity of the constructionistas and those involved in building new projects is outrageous. They are irresponsible drivers who have no regard
for others on the road. I believe the responsible party should be made to pay bigtime as maybe it will cause them to not put so much pressure on
their workers to drive so fast and perhaps they will lay down the law and train employees who drive to be responsible drivers. Like I mentioned
before I cross this stretch of highway several times a day and the trucks that zoom by have logos of Loret Bay and the construction companies that are
building Loret Bay.
When Loreto Paraiso starts construction will there be another deasly stretch of road from Loreto to KM 25 too?
Also that highway sign is still standing barely. I got pictures but my computer is not working so I'll post when I can. The one screw that's holding
the sign in place is about to slip out of the broken concrete, and we're getting winds from the SW that just may help it fall soon. CAn't believe it
hasn't fallen yet.
Welcome to Loreto:
the first thing you'll notice if entering from the north is a highway sign that may become a guillotine to an unfortunate passer by.
the second thing you'll notice is the complete chaos that the town center has become due to "improvements" in the sewer and waterline infrastructure.
this is so friggin' unbelieveable I plan on filming these roads and making a video.

Horrible news.
Getting Mexicans to obey traffic laws is never going to happen. It is better to train people to drive defensive. The amount of carnage on the roads
in Mexico is unbelievable, but it will never change. There are only two kinds of Mexican drivers on the road down there. Rancheros in beaten up
vehicles that are held together with duct tape, and bailing wire, and those who think they are racing in the Baja Mil. Both are equally as dangerous.

I only live in Loreto about six months out of the year. I have not noticed a huge increase in traffic on Baja One. However, slow down when you come
to the new bridge construction on the highway. The road is potholed badly. As for the work in town, well Pam said it all....its definately a maze
getting around all the blocked off streets. I suggest using caution and defensive driving on all of the Baja roads. Its open range most places so
you need to be ready at all times to stop.
