BAJA CALORIES

Nomads - I need help.

I am on a diet, and naturally CCC is out of Slimfasts. I have been drinking fruit yoghurts for breakfast. On the back of the bottle is the food information label, and the calorie rating says "94 kcal".

Now, I know that these are a tad sugary, but 94,000 calories - seems a bit extreme . . .

Could anyone translate/convert for this dieter?

I've seen the word, "Kilocalorie" on cans. Maybe that has something to do with it.

On US foods the Calorie that is listed is actually a kilocalorie. (1000X more than a calorie). So, the calories that you usually count are actually kilocalories. i.e. your apple at 80 Calories is really 1000 times that or 80,000 calories.

The abbreviation for a kilocalorie is a capital "C" in the calorie. Check the labels on your US food and you should see all calories designated as Calories.

Thus, what you have been counting as calories are really Calories (kilocalories), so the 94kcal, is what you would normally count as just 94 calories.

Now do you want to know how many Joules that is? Enjoy the slimfast, but take advantage of the fresh fruits down there. Aren't the mangoes in season, yet?

I've been doing weight watchers and I'm dreading my summer in Cabo away from my 100 Calorie snacks! I know that lettuce and good summer produce (peaches, plums, etc.) are either not very good or very expensive down there. I'm planning on a bumber crop of mangoes and know I'll find some oranges and watermelon to munch on. Good luck with the dieting Rob, see you on the beach! Heather

...back to basic physics...

...a kilo calorie will raise the temperature of a kilogram (2.2 pouonds) of water by 1 degree centigrade. A small calorie will raise a gram of water one degree Centigrade.

...I'd go searching for more Flaco-Pronto...

Rob
Forget about the calories and eat Activa. It has good germs so you can eat more tacos from the road side stands.

Kinda the same wave,

Mike and I are trying to diet also. We have been trying to find a place with different kinds of salads in the Rosarito area. We found some great ones in Ensenada. "Kiss it "Being our favorite. We also like Applebees the have 5 or 6 different kinds. Also Buen Comer has many different salads to chose from. We did find that Bobbies by the sea will make a big veggie salad for you if you ask. Just tell them what you want in it and they will put it in there if they have it, Anyone have suggestions for us. Where's Gypsy Jan when I need her k:yes:;) PS. Do they have Jenny craigs or nutrisystem in Baja? Or Weight watchers?:?:

...and everybody knows that there are no calories in a taco eaten from a Baja roadside stand. Same thing with a beer hoisted with a new friend.

I think it has to do with the position of the body. I mean, everyone knows that eating standing-up (eg.buffet) doesn't add calories. So, make sure you aren't sitting when you hoist that cold one. :bounce: CaboRon :lol:

Thanks Heather - 94 calories is definitely better than 94,000. I don't know Joules - is he a local?) .... I have 24 mango trees planted on the ranch, but they are at least 5 years away from production.

Aquaholic - 1kcal raises 1kg of water 1C, and I weigh 100 kilos, therefore my breakfast yoghurt (no, please -you do the math - my brain hurts) . . . . . no wonder I'm feeling the heat.

I will look for some Activa, Bajajudy - but Flaco-Pronto sounds downright sinister.

Thanks

Activa is good, but any yogurt with active acidophilus culture will keep your digestive system healthy. Or you can simply buy a bottle of acifophilus or probiotic in pill form, take a few each day.

Rob, a Joule is a measurement of energy in the international system. We use a calorie. A calorie (or a Joule) is just telling you how much energy you can get from that food. saludos, H.

I've read that active acidophilus has a lifespan of 7 or 8 days. How long before you bought that tub of Activia was it made? I doubt that there is any commercial yogurt on the shelves in the markets with any life left in it. Only the sugar remains.
If you want live yogurt, make your own.
