Jeez !

Even the Elitists in San Francisco finally got over it being called "Frisco" (well, most of them did). Is this THAT Important ? Other than as an excuse for calling NorteAmericanos Dumb which CERTAIN Elitists seem to fit into any available argument.

Dumb as we are, we are also Numero Uno in the World and we can Nuke anybody who says different.

Has anybody other than a Gringo walked on the Face of the Moon ?

I do believe that is as far off topic as I have ever 'noticed' you moving. Elitist indeed.

I speak of love and respect and that is your response.

You see, Baja California has become so well known, and the name 'Baja' so cool... that California no longer NEEDS to be attached to it!

You just don't get it David, it's marketting only, presented to the american public. Mexicans who are "Ignorant, uneducated, disrespectful and certainly not from Baja California would call it baja. I happen to know Antonio and I can not imagine him or any memeber of his family refering to either state or the peninsula as baja when in conversation with a fellow bajacaliforniano. If you look at any of his posts his location is El Rosario B.C. not just El Rosario B. Our web site is called ultimatebaja and you will notice it's not in spanish.

[Edited on 6-27-2007 by fdt]

I get it just fine Ferna... as you said... YOUR website is called Utimate Baja, not Ultimate Baja California! That's because 'Baja' can be perfectly understood as to what you refer WITHOUT 'California' being attached to it. LONG LIVE BAJA... VIVA BAJA!!!

Forgive me for failing to recognize that, those who don't "Correctly" ID Baja California Mexico are guilty of Hate and Disrespect as opposed to those pure of thought who evidence their Love and Respect by doing so. I will be sure to point out to the next Mexican I see who uses the incorrect term that he or she is showing a lack of respect for their neighbors and themselves.

I'm Soooo Ashamed.

FDT Assessments

So, FDT would be in agreement that I should lecture any Mexicans who, in their "ignorance, lack of education and disrespect" (his/her words) commit the unforgiveable BAJA or BAJA MEXICO Faux Pas ?

I do have one question, though. In the past, contributors to these threads have committed some pretty severe misspellings and misusages on an endless variety of subjects. Would we then have to describe them as equally "Ignorant, uneducated and disrespectful" ?

I'll be sure and quote FDT when doing so.

Once again Mr. Bill, if you are mexican, go right ahead but I doubt very much that you will encounter many mexicans refering to the peninsula or any of the 2 states as Baja alone. Now keep in mind that it is OK for you as an american to call it Baja, I can think of only very few mexicans that would have a problem with that, that is what probably made the Trump people call it Baja Mexico. If I am having a conversation with an american I would refer to it as baja, I am right now writing to you and I refer to the peninsula as baja and I have a web site in english that calls it baja.
If I am talking to a mexican in mexico in spanish and I am mexican also and I was to refer to Baja California as baja alone, I also should be considered ignorant, uneducated, disrespectfull and just plain stupid because in spanish baja means short, low, get down or come down.
Did an exersise with the kids and we tried to incorporate the word baja to sentences refering to baja california without using california and it's just funny and kinda dumb (remember it's all in spanish)
La Paz es de la baja = La Paz is from the low or low class
La Paz baja = La Paz lowers (incomplete) lowers what?
Tijuana baja mexico =tijuana lowers mexico:lol:
Ensenada es baja = Ensenada is short:lol:
Yo salgo a pescar en la baja = I fish in the low (low what, tide?)
Yo vivo en la baja = I live downstairs:lol:
As you can see, it just makes no sense.
So I doubt very much that you will have to lecture mexicans about calling it baja because I doubt that it would happen and if by any remote chance it does, IMHMO you're hanging out with the wrong croud.
I have baja fever but if I say it in spanish, I would not say
Yo tengo fiebre baja because it would mean I have low fever:lol:

This is a joke, Right ?

Nobody could really take something this trivial seriously, could they ? If so, it surpasses any thing negative I could say.

In passing, though, let me ask one thing ? As an authority on what Mexicans say, think or do, how large is FDT's sample pool ? How many Million Mexicans are there ?

Be skeptical of anyone who Claims authority regarding the thinking of anyone other than the few dozen people they might know well. If that.

BTW, what's the thinking among "Those in the Know" regarding Jersey ? How about Philly ? These are important questions. Inquiring minds want to know.

Keep the Scheisse Flowing. It is fun.

You have made it so!

Look at it another way...........Suppose I had asked if anyone noticed that someone had changed your handle from 'Mr. Bill M' to just 'BM'.......... no harm done right! It is done everyday....correct....they do it over in San Felipe and even in Baja Sur so what's the big deal.

Disrepectful! Someone just might find it so.........but then "Jeez'.............'What's the big deal" Elitist? Nah! quite basic and down to earth

So I guess you could say it is all in the point of view. Or, perhaps it would involve another sense.

It IS just as meaningful.

Actually I have personally heard Mexicans call their peninsula "La Baja"!!! One speaking English (to me) even said "Are you enjoying 'the Baja'?"

The word baja means lower... So, Baja California means Lower California, duh... BUT, if you just say 'Baja' when talking about the peninsula, it means the peninsula and not (just the word) 'Lower'.

It is just an abbreviation like L.A. means Los Angeles... 'Baja' (or to Canadians 'The Baja') means Baja California.

We are Baja Nomads... we know that doesn't translate to Lower Nomads, but to 'Nomads of the peninsula'! 'Baja California Nomads' is a bit too wordy, yes?

Well Said, David

However, maybe "Lower" Nomads does apply at times.

I suppose my greatest regret, though, will be that Bernie is going to ignore me. I can't begin to comprehend how much that will affect my life and peace of mind. Going on will be difficult, but I will attempt to cope. Wish me Luck.
