A good amigo has asked me to enquire about the chances of getting a used quad for around a $1,000...Is this possible?? Any out there?

Stay away from the Chinese manufactured ones. Nothing but trouble with no replacement parts. I know a few people that bought those because they were
inexpensive, and they only ran a short time.
Haven't had a bad trip yet....

The ones that are not Japanese!!
Japanese quads are Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki etc,,
If no one has heard of it, it's Chinese. A knock off of the real thing.

Yep, pretty accurate article. My buddy couldnt pass up a good deal so he bought one for about $850 brand new. Damn thing ran for about 6 hours total,
and died, electrical problems. After he let it sit after numerous attempts to get parts, he just cannibalized it for the wheels and tires.
Haven't had a bad trip yet....

A good all around quad is a Honda 250EX. Reliable 4 stroke power, automatic 5 speed, has plenty of power, and very good on fuel, also has electric
start and reverse. We upgraded with differant tires on rear, exhaust, and K&N air filter.
We have two of them for the wife/kids that we bought used at one year old 5 years ago and have never had a problem. We are bringing both of them down
in August to Asuncion, but they are not for sale. Average price used in good to excellant condition is about $2000-$3000.
New is just over $4000 out the door form a dealer.
Haven't had a bad trip yet....

Baja Warrior, is this one of the Honda Rancher types? I really like those for their ability to carry other stuff as well as two people. Not into speed
on ATVs, just crawling and exploring.

Nope, it's a tame trail/dune bike, looks sporty, but not aggresive.
Great all around bike. The farm/utility bikes are great for hauling stuff around, but can be a bit heavy, but the reliability is high because of their
4 stroke motors. Caution, some only have very low gears, meaning, 30 mph is making the motor scream when you have smooth road in front of you.
I believe honda.com has a showroom for viewing.

That's a good point about the gearing. dont want to be stuck at 30 mph for occasional road use.

I could not agree more for an excellent entry level...one thing for comfort is all independent suspension. I for one, cannot ride (long) on any bike
with straight axles....I believe it means a lot as to where you can go and how beat up you are when you get there.
Not that it matters to Shari...I have a Polaris and think it is the Harley of quads.
None of the straight axles I rode with could climb with me or follow me in the corn starch if they had to stop and go.
I will not commit to durability issues as I don't know...it is a big bad machine with more power then it needs...hope it lasts.

I'm looking for a utility quad in the $2K-$3K range, to carry stuff around our camp, where the roads are all 25% grade or higher. Any recommendations?
Anybody got one?
