Urban cowboys, a new look for asuncion vaqueros
Three amigos mios stopped by a couple days ago and I thought it was funny that one was talking on his cell phone and all three had light beer in their
hand! the times they are a changin all right! I love seeing these guys in their sexy chaps!! There are lots of horses in Asuncion and we look forward
to the cabalgato during the fiestas here....which is like a car rally but on horseback. I don't think our horses like the new paved main street
though.

Great picture, Shari!
The two outside guys look like real vaqueros, with there riatas and tapaderos, but the middle one on the paint horse definitly fits the "urban" mold
with his fly guard and leg wraps as well as the phone.
Question? Are they real rancheros who actually chase cows in your area, or is this more of an avocation/hobby with them?

Those light beers help keep your belly from getting tangled up in the saddle horn.

I took this one a little after the first. I think it might just really get the devils attentions. One of my all time favorite snap shots.

The two vaqueros on the sides are fishermen and Juan's cousins and yes they have cows roaming around san roque and here and the other fellow is a
shell collector and his horse is just a youngster and will be just for riding...it has a perfect baja map on it's neck on the other side...impressive
animal and lovely disposition. there are lots of horses here!

Those young ladies remind me of my daughter, minus a year or two. Expect
their famlies are proud of 'em.

It was at last years Fiesta at San Javier. There were a lot of riders. Some of them, I'm told, had ridden for ten days from La Paz. I don't know if
those three were among them. The Governor of BCS was along for the ride into the village.

Almost all the Fiestas have a "cabalgato" which is a horse rally where you ride your horse for a long ways to get to the party...you stop along the
way for rests and cerveza...light of course!

Many years ago SWIMPAL and I were staying at the Meling Rancho for a few days for an anniversary and late one morning two of the roughest lookin'
hombres I'd ever laid eyes on rode up. They turned out to be Aida's neighbors and they had ridden about 40 miles for a good cup of joe.
I did a little bit of buckaroo work in my younger days and the next thing you know the older and more scary looking of the two and I were in an
amiable conversation over the beauty and utility of the oldtimers long hide reata.
