Anyone heard of this La Paz development?

There's a big new development under construction 17 miles outside of La Paz called Maravia. http://www.maraviaresort.com/scope1.htm

What I just learned is the name of the guy who is developing this: Ray "Goodtimes" Novelli, also called "No Pay Ray". He has a very dicey reputation in the USA; somehow I'm not surprised to see he's popped up in Mexico.

Here's an introduction to him:
http://www.natlassoc.org/companies/c.htm and
http://www.natlassoc.com/c2/CASUIT.HTM

For more, just google his name.

This is not to say there is anything improper with that project, but with Ray's history I WOULD say let the buyer beware. :!:

From the website, it looks like they are talking about the land behind Tecolote beach, about which there have been rumours for years. Can't see 5000 acres there, tho, unless they have all the land as far as Coyote beach. I doubt that.

Interesting there are no maps or pics from the actual location!

Again - the problem is total lack of WATER. The beach restaurants truck theirs out from La Paz.

Under "ownership" seems to be the site alluded to. The text says it overlooks Espiritu Santo, the area over by Puerto Mexia and El Rosario overlook Cerralvo. Also, the area pictured under "ownership" showing construction was there last winter. In order to drive out to the lighthouse at Punta Piedra de Bulle, you drive right thru this area. Go to Tecolote, turn right and around the mountain further right, and you will be on the road that passes right thru the construction. There is an old chain link fence running down to the Sea, with breaks to drive through. Lots of room for a golf course overlooking the Sea and Espiritu Santo. Nice beaches too. Don't need 4WD for this area. 4WD needed to get to the lighthouse, but that is way past this area. We were told last year this was an area for homes and golf course. It is a beautiful area, but water??? The Magote project has no water, yet plans on a distillation plant. I believe Costa Baja resort is all operated on their distillation plant. Then where will they get the needed power? La Paz grid is already overloaded.

Those of you currently in La Paz, drive on out there and let us know what's going on. Just a couple of miles east of Tecolote. I'm not back until November (wuss...hot!!)

The website says its between Playa El Tecolote and Playa El Coyote. I'm not familiar enough with the areas outside of La Paz proper to know where that is?

It is between Tecolote and Coyote...easy road out there...from Tecolote don't take the road on the edge of the water, but turn inland and go around the mountain and you'll run into the fence and be able to see the large flat area overlooking the island. It is much closer to Tecolote than Coyote. They were paving roads and had several casas built and some transplanted palms. The road was not passable to Coyote in April you had to get to that beach via the road by the dump and La Fortuna.

Here

Mavaria

I had to add the text since it doesn't download with the photo but I put the x on the spot.

I used Firefox and the arrow lined up where I put the x. On Opera, it's very close to that spot also. On IE Explorer it shows further north but the arrow showing La Paz in also showing further north than it should so I am assuming the Firefox/Opera browsers are correct.

The images and illustrations are terrific in someone's romantic imagination. There is a reason no one to present has ever lived there and yet its close to the City. The area is a wide open gulley to the direct force of the North wind in winter making it a cold venturi and difficult to relax outdoors or golf on the blustery dry bluffs there, in Summer its hot and very very very dry with desperate hungry bugs and spiders and snakes with very few resources at present and worse it's a dangerous drive to La Paz going past Pichelingue port with their massive trucking and shipping. The closest real grocery store is a long way away. Worse the closest tiendas like Breeze are super overpriced (which will bug you). There is a hardly a tree in the entire area. Don't get me wrong, I like it there and visit often, I like it for its barreness and serenity though honestly its not a place one could live comfortably as compared to so many other options. Then of course there are some stories about the ghosts that live there in the craggy caves... which is why no one except the spirits remain for any length... wooooooo spooky.

Are the two La Paz generating plants now running at capacity? For a high-end development, running power out from Pichilingue is no big deal.

The website says it will be solar powered.
:?: :?: :?: :?:

Have you all looked at the developer's history in the USA? All other issues aside, that's what's Woooooooooo spooky! :O

This development and model home has been around for a couple of years, and the area has a great view, and Gnukid gives the area a very good description.

Las Vegas was a dry ghost town until a few gangsters showed up and made it the place to be... imagine gambling at Tecolote Flamingo Casino opening soon.

We drove out there last month.... I might not have been looking in the right place, but there is only ONE structure there that we could see..... (rental office? model home?) otherwise, it looks like NOTHING is going on there (at the development) and not a soul in site... Of note here, while driving to Balandra and then up to tecolote, all the "PRIVATE PROPERTY/NO TRESPASSING" signs and fences that we haven't seen before... a local told me that they are selling those lots like hotcakes... and good luck to all those who bought! The woman who runs the spa at La Concha also said there are plans for a resort (??) up at Balandra.... ???
