Overload is an understatement

The Mexicans in Baja have nothing on this Guy.....

The materials were loaded at Home Depot. Their store manager said they made the customer sign a waiver. While the plywood and 2X4's are fairly obvious, what you can't see is the back seat, which contains - are you ready for this? - 10 bags of concrete @ 80 lbs. each. They estimated the load weight at 3000 lbs. Both back tires exploded, the wheels bent and the rear shocks were driven through the floorboard.

Don't think stoopid is a factor here. Just my take.

Lee............... Big time factor, for sure. I can't stop looking at this. It appears, from the rear ties, that the load was centered on top. Looks like they tied it down with twine. The driver appears to still be in the car, probably in shock.
Oh well, can't say he didn't try.

At least he has a line tied to the windshield wiper so the load doesn't slide off the back.:o

Snopes says it's REAL!

Still don't believe it. Don't see how the load could stay up there.

Think the cement would have done him in.

Not everybody has a Daddy to teach him right.

Oh, and I think the guy inside is asleep. Si?

That's nuts...if it is Photo Shop its a darn good job. I blew the thing way up, and I don't see how the strings going across the sign on the store in the background could have been superimposed on there. What I don't get is why the plywood didn't slide like a deck of cards. That's what happens to me every time I do that.:lol:

This photo was famous/infamous on a Volkswagon message board about six years ago. Much speculation and research into the authenticiy of the photo, where it was shot, etc. If I remember correctly it was all inconclusive.

There was a huge thread that spun off featuring the same load of lumber taken off that photo and photoshopped on every conceivable yype of vehicle ever made...airlines, space shuttles, Abrams Tanks, etc. Funny stuff.

It's now part of VW web folklore...here's a current VW dealer advertisement:
