Yup, step 2 -- needs to register with immigration where he'll be living in in Mexico. That's where the fun begins!

Why does the local immigration reject the FM-3 a person recieved from a stateside Consulate?

It's the same exact document as the one they (local immigration) hands out.

If they (FM-3) are rejected in Baja by the local immigration then why are the stateside Consulates processing them and collecting a fee?

Anyone?

They don't reject them. Their stamp of approval is part of the process.

Welcome to Mexico!!!!!!! I just paid $20 because I was on "the wrong side" of a one lane dirt road. It all comes down to who has the gun/stamp etc. ...... Hey, maybe everything will work out, but that would be the exception!

Confused then...

Why do the upper poster's on this thread say good luck, that's where the fun begins!

I have read here on previous post's that individuals have had their FM-3's from Stateside Consulates rejected at their home turf's local immigration and had to start over.

I have a typed "note" from the San Diego Consulate that they stapled to my new FM3 that reads:

""After receiving your #FM3 for residency purpose, you must enter Mexico within the next 90 days from date of issuance, to have your document stamped and validated, otherwise your document becomes void.

You must also register within the first 30 days from the date of entry with the Mexican Immigration Department Office at the place where you will reside to have them fill out page #6. there you must present proof of your address in Mexico.

Remember that no renewals are done at the Mexican Consulate for those persons interested in obtaining an FM#2 in the future (permanent residency). You must start your renewal 30 days prior to the date of expiration with Mexican Immagration at the port, city or town where you reside.

If you are not interested in obtaining an FM2 you can always re apply at the Mexican Consulate Office.""

Could it be the money isn't collected in that area where you live and that county never recieves that revenue there .:?::?::?:

Possibly, and that's a good one.

Anymore?

I suppose it's because the in-country immigration officers have a reputation for nastiness, unlike the nice folks at the consulate. Just follow the instructions, BW and everything will be allright. You might search some past discussions here for a wealth of info on the subject.

Don't be afraid, be nice. I have to confess I went one time before I started and asked what I needed. They had a form that walked me through it. Prepared me with every thing I needed. Wife and I did every thing ourselfs without help except for the pepole in immigration

BajaWarrior, Sounds reasonable.

I just picked my FM3 at the San Diego Consulate last week and that same notice is also stapled into the back of my FM3 Visa ....

It just amazes me.... I was sent back for more documents on three occasions by the Santa Ana Consulate in Orange County CA ..... Then I took every everything to the San Diego Consulate, in and out in twenty minuets ... and picked up the finished Visa the next morning ....

Everytime is different .... Every Consulate is different .... And it might just be whether they like you or not ... I haven't found any rational explaination.

CaboRon,

yep, that was the easy part, using the San Diego Consulate. I live only 7 miles from it, and just as you described, that was my experiance too.

Your sort of a short timer aren't you? 56 days to go? Nice!:bounce:

You'll be in Todos Santos area correct?

Yes,
Although I spent much time in Baja Norte ( in 1965 I had an FM 3 Work Visa )... I just in the last five years have renewed my love of Mexico.

And Yes, I will be escaping in 56 days, and couldn' t be more excited !! :bounce:

As the only thing consistant is change, it looks like I will be moveing to La Paz.

- CaboRon

Just a note : In 1965 I was living in a one bedroom apartment in Pacific Beach and the rent was $65- a month.
Good Times.
