Shari

Do you remember the name of the yacht you assisted take refuge at San Roque Island? Is it the Northern Star? Friends of mine were in Turtle this morning and were going to head south to Asuncion, weather permitting. Thanks for any information you may have.

Winter Rains

The "Equipales" are seasonal winter rains that have been scant or totally absent in the last many years. Old timers in Todos Santos and surrounding ranchos told me of regular gales in the winter (and interesting stories that go with them), but it's been well over a decade since a good winter downpour. They usually only last for a few hours and the intensity of the wind and inches of rainfall can be very variable, multidirectional and mercurial.

It is impossible to predict and give ample warning for one of these unpredictable natural events. Those who have experienced the sudden deluge of a winter storm can now take preventive measures for the future.

Besides all the inconvenience and terrible loss of property, I pray that there have been no serious injuries as the result of all this rain, flooding and landslides.

I also hope that the bottle of rum somebody mentioned as an emergency ration, proved its utilitarian efficacy during distressing stormy natural events...

Equipatas...horses' feet. Considered a light rain sounding like horse trotting. We had these rains in Todos Santos frequently in the '80s.

Hey Chuck

The rain has stopped and Yuma Doppler is clear. The winds persist but hopefully will lay down soon. See ya Friday.

The rain has stopped here in La Paz, I am hoping for a few days until I can do some quick and dirty repairs.

Woke up about four this morning to step into water covering most of the bedroom floor. Seems the drainage holes were drilled above the door sill.

Working with the hairdryer now so that I can do a quick silicon fix to hold until after the storm.

The last homeowner never mentioned this...and evidently there are no disclosure laws in Mexico.

Buyer beware, even when buying from a gringo, or maybe especially when buying from a gringo.

Stay dry,

CAboRon

I would not characterize this as a winter storm. I think it's more like the last remnant of the tropical season, given it's character and temperature.
