Notice how fast the tourism official is to state Gangs and fake cops, even he's to CS say the real cops are in on it.
“Gangs and fake cops were preying on racers just as they have preyed on other groups. There was a serious escalation of incidents this past year. But
it's not just the race.”

Comitan,
Thanks for the link to the article..... maybe a one year hiatas is the answer..... if that doesn´t work, then keep the race in the US for good.

I don't think anywhere in the US will you find the authorities and population welcoming the races as they do in Baja Ca. and Baja Ca Sur. Score
races in the US do not have Motorcycles, quads, UTVs.
Probably would take 5-6 years of study to get a 800 mile race approved.

I know Utah's
Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance
would have real problems with the race and the off roader's are having a hard time just keeping Moab trails open

You are mis-attributing that quote, as I read it. It was made by a veteran SCORE driver, not a tourism official. Look at the
paragraph before your quote.

My question is, has Sal Fish signed a multi-year contract with some entity in Mexico that forces him to continue to hold it there? Could he even
cancel it, if he wanted to, without legal repercussions for SCORE?

There have been several incidents south of TJ on the toll road and in TJ over the past year as reported here. This is not just a race related thing.
It's more in the spot light primarily because of a McMillin trailer and McMillin is a big name in southern CA and off-road racing. Sal can probably
get some action going because he does bring a lot of money into Baja because of the races.
As far as a 500 or 1000 mile off road race in Utah or New Mexico, I don't think it'll happen any time soon. As BajaLou pointed out it would take years
of enviromental study, then the lawsuits will follow. Then the day before the race someone would find a weed, rat, bird or lizzard on the course and
everything will stop. I guess 10 to 20 laps on a 50 mile course would work, but think of what the course would be like on the last lap.
