Vee vant to see your papers
Immigration folks are checking for tourist and resident papers as you enter the airport buildings in San Jose del.
My friend was dropping off her boyfriend today for his flight home and decided to accompany him into the building. She, a US citizen, has been a legal
resident for 18 years and is awaiting her Mexican passport. She had in her possession her US passport but not the file documenting her status as a new
Mexican citizen. The migra guys were checking everyone that came through the door.
They detained her for well over an hour while she called a friend to go to her house and get her paperwork and bring it to the airport.
So I guess the moral of the story is either always carry your FMT, FM3, FM2 or whatever or a copy of same, or just don't go through the doors at the
airport.
I'm going to make sure I have current copies in the car today.
When in Rome.........

When I took Jim and our employee to the airport in November, they were checking as you came in the airport. Somehow I skipped around them but they
asked Jim and our employee who is Mexican.

Last month, David K posted about new passport requirements for entering US. Just a reminder - it's effective Jan 31st. This sounds awful:

Don't make it sound so scary! Passports are still NOT required for Americans RETURNING to the U.S. via land or sea.... only by plane. They must
(however) have their birth cert. and a photo ID,... except kids, just the birth cert. for them. Please read the official CBP letter I posted in the
Baja News Forum.
Pretty much the way it has been operated since 9-11, but now no excusses... If you don't have the proof and ID, then you will be detained! Heck, after
all these warnings the past few years, doesn't everyone already have their passports???

No Sharks, not Dracula.
I vaz alooding more to zee gestapo. But hey, they are just guys doing their jobs. I shouldn't besmirk their characters. Growing up in the US we are
simply not used to being stopped by the authorities in public places and having to prove our legal status. I don't like it but I'll figure out a way
to have papers closer at hand when I am out and about.
