Fed Ex
We needed to send some copies of some documents to our Bank in La Paz and in the request, they also had the bill for next years Fideicomiso fee---
We e-mailed the bank to verify that we could pay it now---want to stay ahead---no problem.
Not trusting the mail a whole lot, we used FedEx--Fed Ex shows that they delivered the package late November. We had requested that the lady
handling the Fideicomiso e-mail us when it arrived --- and verify that the check was received.
No e -mail. We e-mailed the lady twice last week---no reply, the old if I don't have the answer you want, I don't respond.
We contacted our really great agent in La Paz who handled our Fideicomiso. He contacted the bank and yes, the papers arrived, but no check.
We will cancel the check and our agent will pay the fee for us---we deposit money in an account here in the US for him--
Just glad we have our agent in La Paz to help and we will make arrangements in the future to pay through him.
So, FedEx is not as safe as we thought---anyone else have problems with them?

Yea, that is a possibility---don't really know, but won't take the chance next time either way.
Good thing it is way early.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't computer bank transfer for if you have an account at a Mexican Bank? We don't have an acccount (may change that
soon), it is just the bank that holds our Trust.
Wiring money from our bank costs too much---would rather pay our agent to pay for us----he has not asked for any pay for this, but we intend to pay
him anyway
Back to computer bank transfer---which bank in the US are you using and which bank in Mexico? The most convenient bank for us in Mexico would be
Bancomer---they opened a branch in Vizcaino--

Our experience with Bancomer in La Paz
We paid in $1000 cash to the vice President of Bancomer, sitting at his desk inside the bank, received an official bank receipt, and our money
disappeared. To this day BANCOMER owes us $1000!! Think we will ever see a penny of it?? HA! THERE WAS ABO****ELY NOTHING WE COULD DO. The bank
remained intransigent. Did not honor its own paperwork. And of course, the Vice President had quit in the meantime!
Be glad is was a check and that you could cancel it!

That's terrible!
Since our check was made out to the bank and it has been two months since it was "delievered" and it has not come back to our bank, it probably was
really lost---but will cancel it anyway.
Probably the most frustrating thing is that we finally had to have our agent get an answer for us---

We have our fide with Bancomer.
I am not worried.
Perhaps they have lost ALL of our checks, and we have never been credited with making a payment. I don't know that but I assume so. No problem, I am
sure they are too disorganized to ever figure that out and do anything about it.

I think we are using the same agent, Alonso?? We are very happy with him and we were really happy to finally get to meet him in person.
When we used fed-ex to send papers to Alonso, we had no problems. I think like someone suggested, maybe the bank lost the check---it may have stuck
in the cardboard envelope. If that is the case, I am sure that is why our contact at the bank did not respond---on well, we stopped payment.
We are happy Alonso is there and he is taking care of it for us. La Paz is a long ways away.

I opened a bank account with Washington Mutual because they do not charge for wire transfers, both domestic and international. There's no charge for
the checking account either. Check them out. |

Was the check loose in the FedEx envelope? I sent a large sheaf of papers and a cashiers check for $30K several years ago when purchasing a truck out
of state. As I put the check in last I had a premonition that it wasn't good that it just dropped to the bottom of the envelope, but I ignored the
warning signs. Well, they obviously unzipped the enveloped, grabbed the sheaf of paperwork and never looked or turned the package upside down. I had
to cancel the check and send another. The dealership actually bought a bond to cover the check should it ever show up again in the wrong hands.
Moral: always attach the check to something.

Should have shipped it UPS. Both utilize sub contract carriers in Baja. I have tried FDX and DHL and UPS seems to have the fastest transit time and
reliability.

Hi Diane,
I've had two incidents with FedEx:
1. I was in Mexico City and my mom sent me a belt, some socks, and a few other items that I needed. I received the package with everything but the
belt and the socks. My mom got her money back and learned that it happens a lot.
2. Someone sent me documents overnight which never got to me. They were not delivered because they said the address did not exist. They contacted
the sender for my email and phone number. I never received a phone call or an email. The sender requested the documents be sent back and they wanted
to charge her for them!!!
USE DHL IN MEXICO!!!!

I too use DHL to send equipment to Baja. The only problem I ever had was my fault when the label I used came off and the package went to the
addressee of the label underneath. fortunately I knew the other person and they alerted me when the box showed up.
I usually send lots of electronic equipment. I insure it and request it be held at the local DHL office for pick up by the addressee. this way they
can inspect it on the spot at the local office and register a complaint right away. never had that happen however. UPS 2 day saver is also a good
economical way.
Never used FedEx so can't comment on it.

Word of advise...
Do not try to send a textile (Levis, Nike shoes, cloths, etc) to MX. Especially if they originated in China. The duty and taxes will be more than
the original value of the commodity.
Basically the MX govt does not want these products sent to their country and will tax the heck out of them. They want you to buy MX products.

Has anyone had U.S. mail collected by someone and then put in a large envelope and sent to Baja Sur?
What service did you use? Any positive or negative experiences? Any other ideas as to how to get your mail here? By experience, sending by regular
mail to a Mexican P.O is NOT a good idea.
