Scottish Rite in Baja Sur
For Dennis:
Masonry is from the Time of King Solomons Temple and even before according to the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Masonry has been active in Mexico for many Centuries. Zapata was a member as well as Pancho Villa.
The large White Building near the Mission in La Paz is the Scottish Rite Temple.
A Scottish rite Mason is a 32 Degree Mason whereby a York Rite Mason is also a 32nd.
There are two Paths to becoming a 32 Degree-Scottish Rite for those members of the Christian Faith, and York Rite for those beleiving in a Supreme
Being such as the Jewish Members.
While living in Loreto I attented Lodge in Villa C
onstitution several times with Tio Don O'Neil. He being a Past Master of his Lodge in Long Beach.
During the Past 20 years there has been 7 new Lodges formed in the Constitution. Masonry is very active in Baja Sur and espeically La Paz.
Until Salinas Gortari became President, all the Past Presidents of Mexico since 1935 were members of Masonry.
Here in the States, the Shrine--A Masonic Club spends 1 Million Dollars a Day for the Shriners Hospitals- The Lanuage Disorders Clinics are spending
close to that, building new Centers.

Ferna: Excellent Post on Mexican Masonry!
Generally speaking Masonry in Mexico is seen as "Political" where in the States it is "Practical"..

Wow, great information everyone. I learned a lot and to think, I just thought I was renting a hall to hold the expo. In fact, I do know they have a
long hall way to the side of the expo hall with I believe a history and photos/potrtaits of famous masons. I'll make sure to take a close look.
