Where the #@[[ did all this rain, thunder and lightening come from?

All of a sudden, around 5:00 (here in the Ensenada area) we have thunder and lightening....followed by a rather heavy downpour that is just beginning to lighten up (maybe!). Our friends at weather dot com say it's CLEAR here at the moment....just talked to friends that are at the moment in Tecate leading a caravan southbound and they said they are in 6" of hail (looks like snow) and they are freezing their @$$e$ off! Dogs are very unhappy with this thunder...

wunderground for tecate

An unusually cold and wet low pressure system that has come in from the northeast will continue to bring scattered showers or thunderstorms over much of San Diego County...including the Borrego desert...through 8 PM. The rain may cause local ponding of water on roads and highways. There is even a chance of local urban and flash flooding in an area bounded by Mira Mesa...alpine...Poway and Ramona. Additional rainfall totals will up to a quarter of an inch. There will also be local ice pellets or snow on the foothills. Heavier snow showers will continue in the mountains where up to 8 inches has fallen already. An additional 4 inches of snow is possible with the snow level as low as 2000 feet. It will also be windy and foggy in the mountains. Travel with caution this evening during this winter storm.

Snow in Tecate :wow: Both highways to Mexicali closed since 2:30PM because of snow. It had not snowed in Tecate for the past 8 years according to reports.

Should be a beautiful crossing over the Tecate Divide for the Matomi group.

I'm crossing it too, but probably around noon, on my way to southern Anza Borrego.

Incredible weather overnight.

Gusts in San Juan easily approaching 50 mph most of the night. Get this: temps rose 10 DEGREES overnight!

Then, about 6:30 THE WIND JUST STOPPED. NOT A BREATH. Temps started heading down a few degrees but the sun will take care of that.

EDIT: Wind has returned with a vengeance. Temps climbing fast.

This nomad is enjoying the series of storms this winter. Though first storm did prove tragic for some local families, we need the water. And haven't needed my snow shovel here. Ok, I rarely shoveled in Denver, preferring solar melt on a south facing driveway vs. my back muscles.

Also, weather underground is my preferred international weather source. W.U. indicates they are using measurements from Ensenada cruise port for
this area.

Gutters? How much Bombay Saphire?

Baja was definitely in a mood yesterday!

I was driving back from Ensenada at around 5:00 yesterday and got hit by the storm. First it was a few sprinkles....then steady rain.....then heavy rain....then an absolutely torrential downpour that was so bad I almost pulled over to the side of the road. 15 minutes later the sun was out, wind had switched to offshore and it was absolutely beautiful.

Sunny and warm (out of the wind) here in TS. But the wind is pretty fierce. Amazing how your standards are raised after being down here for a while.

And now, finally, I am a real nomad, rather than an incongruous white haired "Junior".
