NO MORE GAS SOUTH OF SAN FELIPE
The Feds visited the Poblado Delicias (KM 35.5) and Puertecitos last week and closed down all sales of gas even though some like Chelo's, have been
selling for over 20 yrs - small emergency amounts which we've all had to use from time to time.
Therefore fill up in San Felipe if you're going South - next stop for gas will be in Gonzaga!
Really hurts the Mexicans in the area, as they must now spend the money to drive to San Felipe to buy the gas - 50 miles round trip. Gas may be less
expensive down here, but they shouldn't have to spend more in order to get it.

Folks told me that last week there was no gas at the new Pemex in Puertocitos (not open yet) and that the Gonzaga Bay Pemex had no gas....and that the
store at GB only had diesel in the big tanks....so next gas was at highway junction at Chapala south of Catavina.
Hmmmmm....

Just came through Gonzaga Bay yesterday and had no problems gettting gas from the Pemex.

Thanks for posting this information. On the Baja Grande runs, I always ask everyone to bring a pair of 5 gal. gas containers in the event that we
cannot get gasoline between San Felipe and L.A. Bay. Sometimes we've been lucky with gasoline, but other times not...

I suspect that one reason for the shut down of gas sales....and beer too at Cow Patties and other places...is the fact that everything south of San
Felipe is governed by Ensenada and not Mexicali.....if the east coast of Baja gets too popular the west coast will see its tax base go south. There
is no other good reason to keep things as they are from San Felipe to Gonzaga Bay.
We got back yesterday from a driving trip to Alfonsina's. "That Road" is as bad as ever....hasn't been graded in about five years. It took us almost
3 hours to drive the fifty miles from Alfy's to Puertecitos. I like the fact that the road is so bad because it keeps Alfy's pristine. But it sure
is bad for commerce and growth of a Mexican middle class.

I came through a few days ago. They were working on the Pemex in Puertocitos. When I went through Gonzaga around the tenth they had gas, but the
diesel pump was wrapped up.

Maybe I should have changed the subject but I did say you can't buy gas between San Felipe, and Gonzaga. That said, it's a stretch for many as they
knew they could buy gas somewhere in between even if only a few gallons. Believe it or not, a "Demanda" (complaint) was made and the Feds closed
everyone based on the one complaint.
The station in Puertecitos is not being worked on, unfortunately -- it is closed and hasn't been open in years. The activity is at the old Pemex. It
has gas in large above ground tanks for the Contractors to use for equipment, on the extension of the road around Puertecitos and eventually on to
Gonzaga and then Chapala. Also, there's a Comedor (outside dining room next to tanks) open most days. Excellent, very inexpensive food - carne
asada, etc. and homemade tortillas.
The road South is and always has been horrible, but so WAS the road from San Felipe to Puertecitos until about 5 years ago, so there is hope, it just
takes time. (we've been here 20) We are a part of Ensenada and I am amazed that they're spending the money to do all this work, considering there's
such a small if not non-existent tax base here. It's one Ejido after another and they don't have to pay taxes at this point -- and neither do we.

I live in Puertecitos and they are and have been working on the "new" station. In fact they have been working almost continiously since they replaced
the pumps last fall !! I know , I PAID FOR THE NEW PUMPS !!!!!!!!I just came North on Thursday and an electrician had just finished working for the
previous week. If I had a dollar for each time some "expert" made a statement about the Pemex in Puertecitos, I could buy a lot of gas !!
I am in constant contact with the owner and I believe if she had been a "he" it would have already been reopened.
As far as the old overhead tanks being used by the road contractor, I have never seen a supply truck or any vehicle fueling at that point. I could be
wrong, but I will check it out when I return next week .
