Baja Mission Tour
Greetings All,
This is for any of you not attending Keri's Baja Book Signing at the Pyramid Resort.
I know many of you are interested in Baja's missions so I thought I'd pass this along from CAREM (Corredor Historico CAREM, A.C.). It is a non-profit
organization in Baja Norte dedicated to the historical preservation of Baja's older buildings and missions. I am proud to say I am a member. Zella
Ibanez of Rancho Ojai heads CAREM.
A website will be up in the next month and I will let you know on BN when it's ready.
Here's the trip:
Mission Trip - May 2-6
A lectured tour of eight Baja California missions (Senora de Guadalupe, Santo Tomas, San Vicente, Santo Domingo, both El Rosario sites, San Fernando
Velicata, San Borja & Santa Getrudis) lead by renowned Baja California historian, Dr. W. Michael Mathes. The tour is 5 days/4 nights (seems like a
lot for 5 days) and begins and ends in Tecate. You will ride in a fully-equipped first-class bus and overnight stays include San Quintin, Catavina
(2), and Guerrero Negro. Since the tour leaves at 9am from Tecate, they can set up another night's lodging there if you need.
What's included:
-Bus transportation/4 nights lodging
-9 meals (4 breakfast/5 lunches)
-Lectures/literature packet
-Guide
-Baggage handling & tips
-Ice chest w/ soft drinks, beer, water plus snacks on bus
Cost:
$450 US - Double Occupancy (means you share a room with another person)
$600 US - Single Occupancy (you have your own room)
100% of funds raised go to CAREM and it's projects.

Wow... what a deal!
I have emailed with Zella back when INAH made a mess of our Mision Santa Maria drain project back in '05... She seems very nice!

DK,
Zella is great and she has a passion to do something with IHAH (or wothout) to save the missions and older building such as Campo Alaska in Baja
California. I think we all love the missions so when the website is up, I'll place it on this site.
By the way, I received a couple emails about confusion on the prices so I edited the original email to make it clearer.
Also, you don't have to email me, you can reply to this thread if you want more information.

Sounds good but how are they planning to get the people to hard to get missions,like San Fernando,or San Borja?.
BAJA IS WHAT YOU WANTED TO BE, FUN,DANGEROUS,INCREDIBLE, REMOTE, EXOTIC..JUST GO AND HAVE FUN.....

It says in a bus... I don't think San Borja is hard to get to with 2 lane wide graded roads... and San Fernando is only 3-4 miles from Hwy. 1 via an
easy road, too.
Mision Santa Maria IS hard to reach! (note that it is not included in the list, nor is out of the way Santa Catalina, which is easy to get to but
nothing left to see much).
Mision San Pedro Martir is only reached by foot or mule and Calamajue was only a mission site for a few months and it is a bit rougher to get to, but
not 4WD rough.

While at Mission San Fernando, perhaps they could also visit the associated visita San Juan de Dios. Would be an interesting discovery.
