Otay Crossing
Getting ready for a quick run up to San Diego. The last time (mid February) I took the new Blvd. 2000 from Rosarito Beach, I got caught up in the
detour just before the crossing. It might have been the time of day, but there were about 6 lanes of heavy traffic merging into a single lane with NO
traffic control what so ever. It took about twice as long to get through the detour as it did to cross the border. Is it still like this or has it
gotten any easier? Leaving next week and trying to decide where to cross. Thanks, BK

Construction still at it. Just follow the detour signs around the school.
Another way would be when you make the first right of the detour, go straight to Bella Artes Blvd. Make a left on Bella Artes and proceed to the
carwash.
Proceed under the bridge (Otay crossing road). make your first right, then your first left. This should line you up with the Otay crossing road.
Same procedure if you had a SENTRI pass except turn right at the carwash for the SENTRI lane.

I crossed at Otay yesterday and it was a mess. I had two non-Sentri holders with me, so I had to use the regular line. It was my longest wait ever. 3
hours and 15 minutes, but we were also told that San Ysidro was 4 hours.

Crossed at Otay last Thursday at approx 10:00 a.m. 20 minutes in the regular lanes (had a non-Sentri holder with me).
Friends don't let friends drink white zinfandel.

Curious - why didn't you drop the non-Sentri holders off and let them walk through - never a wait to walk across at Otay (in my experience, at least)?
I go through Sentri and pick them up on the other side - no problem.

We had too much gear with us......bikes, surfboards and bags etc....and my understanding of the Sentri is that you are not allowed to carry anyone
else's belongings in your car. Otherwise we would have done that!
