I'm spending the day recovering from the 3 of May at the Pyramid.:(

I'm joining a bunch from the college after work.

THEY want to go to El Torito Grill. :?:

I was ready to point out what an Americanized place that is to celebrate a Mexican holiday...............then I figured, what the hell, it's perfect for this "holiday' marketed to the US.

So, it's El Torito Grill for me...........

Isn't El Torito a high end Taco Bell?

I'd call it better than that. And ET Grill is supposed to be higher end than the regular ETs.

But, the last time I checked, no beers or shots at Taco Bell. :smug:

It celebrates the battle of Puebla. That's in Mexico somewhere, right?

Cinco de Mayo a Gringo-inspired holiday? Not really.

Frances Toor's classic Mexican Folkways [published 1947] gives five pages to this holiday, most of it describing a reenactment in elaborate costumes of the Battle of Pueblo that was a big affair at a place called Penon (probably by now part of Mexico DF).

Never has been much of a celebration in La Paz though.

Who said it was gringo inspired?

I think it's foisted on the US by the marketing of the mexican beer and tequila companies.

Lor' bless em..........
