Wonderful articles lately; illegals doing home invasions, illegals filling our jails, drugs coming into the county, murder gone wild;
How many feet of fence would that $400 million buy !! I don't see anyone giving the US money for problems that their countries create ! :mad::fire:

Diver,
A fence would not reduce the demand for drugs....that problem is not created by "supply", but by "demand". Drug abuse is a response to a complex set of dynamics....not just successful smuggling.

A fence and other "improved" border traffic safeguards might help with a portion of the "illegals" problem.....if US employers stopped hiring them, a welcoming mat would be reduced in size.

The drain on the US economy might be remediated somewhat, perhaps, if some of that aid money was spent on solutions north of the fenceline.....hmmm....maybe some of the gazillions spent in Iraq might be better spent at home.....the truckloads of cash thrown about overseas may not have the returns that money might produce if spent closer to home.:light:

The planet seems to be in a real chit bucket these days on many fronts....no simple solutions, for sure.

An even sadder aspect of a failed immigration reform system is that 19 illegals have died so far in June trying to cross into Arizona.

Vandenberg,

Well, they might just get flushed in the fall :light::lol:

I have my flame-suit nearby....hope you do too, as most of those who express political views on this forum seem to be a "bit right" of me on the political spectrum :biggrin:

Ged,
The fence or other means of border control would eliminate part of the incoming drugs.
Yes, we would still need to deal with our internal problem but at least we would do it without illegal alien criminals or undesireables in the mix.
A portion of the "demand" would also go away with the illegal criminals and undesireables.

BTW, most of the crack and crystal meth in our area of the country is distributed by Mexican suppliers or gangs that bring it up from CA or Mexico.

If there is a demand there WILL be a supply.

Never thought I would say so, but this is a total repeat and replay of prohibition when the mafia and other gangs were fighting over who was going to get the lions share of illegal booze. The parallels are so close as to almost be duplicates. If they ever come to realize that simple fact and we get some real thinkers in Washington instead of professional politicians, then we might seriously consider licensing drugs which are showing no slowdown in usage. I think that the evidence speaks for itself and meth or cristal has no place in the marketplace but it would seem to me that pure strain marijuana and coke could be marketed much as liquor which would not only put the whole pipeline out of business overnight, but would probably empty out the overcrowded prisons as well. Of course there would be problems with addiction and usage, but there are those same problems with alcohol and that has not really stopped the distribution of that product.
But if we did that, people would no longer be afraid of coming to Baja and would start flocking down and crowd me on my fishing hole.

Pescador, you're absolutely correct about the drugs and alcohol prohibitions. But today, there are so many more making money off the drug wars, Customs, border patrol, DEA, FBI - and prosecutors that don't want to loose their jobs. They will fight to the end to keep the status quo.
