Gracias mi canuck amiga...and ditto that to all the canadian baja lovers here in nomadlandia. I'm gonna stick a little maple leaf flag in a planter today(if I can find it) and raise a glass of tequila to my beloved country. (Since I've been living in mexico, I've learned how to be patriotic!!) Viva Canada.

Canada Day is a National Holiday here in Canada celebrating Canada's Birthday.

Birthday? But, the queen of England is still on your money... Tradition and the Commonwealth connection I guess?

Thanks... Now, what is Boxing Day?

I just wish you Canadians would think about the hurt that you have caused us Americans. You have been stealing our acid rain for years and have no remorse.

Here on Vancouver Island it is a beautiful, warm summer day to go to the beach and folick before the fireworks this evening.

The year of Canada's confederation was 1867.

We still keep the queen around because she is just so damn cute.... so retro! We officially left her behind in 1981 when we repatriated the constitution. You don't really want to know about that... it is all so Canadian.

Thanks nomads for your greetings. I am lucky because I get to celebrate the 4th of July also... being dual and all. BBQ and beer all week.

Nomads,
Now that the Yanks recognize that Canada Day is like their July4th hoohah, hopefully they can appreciate that Boxing Day is something they don't have....a day of generousity:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxing_Day

Boxing Day

The day after Christmas, the Feast of St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr, is better known as Boxing Day. The term may come from the opening of church poor boxes that day; maybe from the earthenware boxes with which boy apprentices collected money at the doors of their masters' clients.

Nowadays, we often see, in certain families, gifts (boxes) given to those who provide services throughout the year.

"Boxing Day" is listed in the Canada Labour Code as a holiday.

Hey Bajagypsy...tis a fine day over here in Vernon BC. And Sheri I am drinking enough beer for the both of us. I am doing my part. Reached 40 Cel here yesterday.

Oh Sheri...Tim smoked up the last of our salmon yesterday. And guess what? He found a slab of yellowtail and used the same brine. Think he is onto something. While the two of us were tasting it you could see him thinking...wondering what Juan would think of it.

Hugs to all.

Juan thinks Tim had better get down here and build a smoker...Bajaboy figred if the hot tub doesn't work out we can make a live bait tank in it...or maybe a smoker???? Have a great celebration kids...miss you tons...all of you! the more margaritas I drink, the more I'm getting post-canadian syndrome I think...yearning for my homies! I sure am looking forward to having my paisanos here this summer. I'm not sure what will happen when we get bajagypsy, barbarena, red mesa & I together...whoa nelly...could get pretty wild!

Shari,
Your version of Boxing Day is pretty accurate...no praying to saints for most of us

I had my quota of beer at the lake yesterday....so I had a nice Chilean merlot with my salmon supper.

I grilled the salmon....everytime I try to smoke salmon it doesn't work out too well....the rolling papers get too wet :lol:

Congrats on your new citizenship

And yes, the mercury has been kissing 40 here the last few days....until a "dry" but windy lightening storm blew in around supper time today...from the Fraser Canyon...I hope it dropped some rain on the forest fire at Lytton (burro Mountain to be precise)

...and a very Happy Dominion Day, to you all! Now that really dates me, eh?:tumble:

Had a wonderful day in south-eastern Alberta, watering, weeding and enjoying the all the birdy babies squawking for grub!
