When an American citizen becomes a naturalized Mexican citizen, he does not give up his American citizenship. However, to become a Mexican citizen, he gives up his right to claim American citizenship while in Mexico. What that means is that if you are arrested in Mexico you have none of the rights afforded foreigners under international law or treaties, such as the right to see a US Counselor officer.

In order to lose your American citizenship, you must appear before a US Counselor officer in person and renounce your citizenship.

Fulano,

Very well put, that too is how it was explained to me, as long as I am in Mexico, I am subject to our laws here; I can not beg off with U.S. Consulate if I error here, which seems fine, fair and correct the way I see it.

The laws have recently changed so now the 5 question test is written, not oral and you have to have your FM2, not an FM3.
I will not renounce my canadian citizenship either. I will celebrate my mexicaness and party like crazy the rest of the year!
