"why do you even bother?" "are you crazy?"
this seems to be the first things out of the mouths of most everyone i know when i say Bia and i are heading south. there are many reasons to run the
gauntlet of life and doing it south of the border just makes it that much more special. i mean, the getting there is almost as much fun as the being
there, right? what gets you out of the house and heading south? what's your pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? why risk it all? what could be so
alluring in such a lawless, forbidding, and desolate place (outside the cities and towns, anyways) such as baja?
why we go..........

Feeling that photo and the vibe buddy! Nice one!
but SHHH - some baja fearful folks might change their
mind and then come down and crowd up the waves...
Baja California can be a heaven or hell experience - often the determining factor is your AWARENESS in the moment.

Thanks for that, Doug
And thanks for providing this place where, amongst all the angst and blather, there is still the embedded gem that reminds us why, indeed, we even
bother to head Southward.

OK then, we are doing you a beneficial service by posting the news published in the Mexican newspapers about events in Baja that never makes it into
the US newspapers...right?

Hitchiked all over the USA and Africa. Been going to Baja since 91, lived there full time for 9 years only been robbed 2X, both in NYC.
I go to Baja because it is beautiful in just about every aspect. I sure do miss living there.

I admit to pushing the lawless Baja theme...my goal is/was to inform the unsuspecting. People who bring loved one should know of the possible
consequences. In reality it is a two edge sword...two groups benefit. The first time tourist that will most likely be turned off anyway, and the Baja
adventurers, who benefit with less people.
The real question was/is Why?
my reason is simple...I cannot be ask by anyone to work. The choice is now mine...been under the gun for 40+ years. No one will call me there...to far
away. I think it is the only place in North America I can live well without worry and not think of work.

1967 read Ray Cannon's Book "The Sea of Cortez"
October 67 flew my little Cessna to Baja Sur-Fell in Love with the People and the Sea of Cortez
Lived and worked in Loreto until 2000
Met Capt. George and told him about Baja, he decided to stay, I knew Baja Sur would never be the Same!! So I left.
Moved to the Texas Panhandle for clean Air and Clean Water. Sure do miss those Yellowfin, Yellowtail, Dorado,Cabrilla, Sharks, Dolphins,Whales !!

Well said, Skeet----------------(I still go back and look at my copy of Ray Cannon's book--------love it)
Now I retreat to little Independence, Ca (Owens Valley) where I own a house, and enjoy the country and people, and fish.

Great photo Woody. Reminded me of a shot I have of me on my boogie board south of the border. I call it "the baja bomb". If venturing south in
these troubling times is crazy, then I'm a total whacko and loving every empty lineup.

Barry A; you live in Manson Country!! Are you not scared that some of his followers will still be around Independence?
Just Kidding. I lived and worked Bishop and the area from Death Valley to Tonopah to Conways Summitt and South to China Lake. Spent lots of time on
the Owens and into Amptheater Lake in the Sierras. Beautiful Country.
Back to Baja Sur: On spending time in Baja from 1967 on, each time I would come back to the States People would tell me that there was going to be a
Revolution within the next Five years. I am still getting the same information wshen I tell people I lived in Baja. The first thing out of their
Mouths is:
They will throw you in Jail and take your Property away from you. All BS of Course.
Of all the years in Baja Sur, the only True incident of Property being taken away was the Punta Banda Debackle.
Some times it seems as if the newer Generation of Americans and Canadians have been taught to "Fear" with out even attempting to "Go and find out the
Truth of the Matter, instead of depending on someone else to tell you their version of the TRUTH.
Advice: Go through the Border at Tecate during the Day, stop at San Quintin and stay at the La Ciros Motel, get up 5 Am or just at Dawn and head South
to Catavina, then to Guerrero Negro, across to San Roaslilla Mulege then Loreto. All described travel is during the Daylight Hours.
I would much rather go to Loreto/La Paz than South Central LA /East La/ Oakland/New Orleans/ Phoenix.
