We are already up to "G"

There has been a constant parade of storms well south of us.
The earliest storm in the last 5 years with"G" was Gilma Aug 1-3, 2006. We are almost two weeks from that.
I agree with what Ed said earlier. Thank goodness for this cool water.

it was Gil not Gilma  what kind of name is Glima? Gil is my brother in law's name and I've n ever heard it before meeting him. the storms have been forming one behind the other just like the constant cold fronts over the past winter. i think we'll get at least one good storm over the soc this season.

Sorry Pam but Gil was in August 29, 2007.
Gilma was 2006

And I agree because it seems early for the storms this year.

Strange Names

What is it with these names, anyway ? Another example of PC ? Back when they used only female names, they at least used proper names and not cute nicknames. Although I thought it was silly for the Fems to get their panties in a bunch over the sexism, it was really no big deal when they went dual-gender.

The stupid nicknames are something else. We can probably expect to see Hurricane Bubba or Ice(T) in the future.

No panty bunching here, sweet talker. I thought it was always appropriate that such a powerful force be named after the "weaker" sex.... along the lines of "hell hath no fury......";)

Reminds me of an old elementary school joke:

Why don't they give male name to hurricanes?

Because they are not himicanes.

Look out for DOLLY.
She's coming over the mainland much farther north than the other starts this year.
Her remnants will make central to south Baja by early next week.
Could be lots of rain !

From NHC today

THUS GENEVIEVE IS UPGRADED TO A
HURRICANE WITH 65 KT WINDS...THE FOURTH OF THE EASTERN PACIFIC
HURRICANE SEASON. THIS FORMATION IS ABOUT TWO WEEKS AHEAD OF THE
MEAN FOURTH HURRICANE DATE OF 10 AUGUST IN THE EASTERN PACIFIC...
AND 2008 ALREADY HAS HAD AS MANY HURRICANES AS THE ENTIRE 2007
SEASON.
