No longer a traveler
Some time ago I asked the board owner if there should be a special place on the board for ex pats who live in Baja California full time; old timers
like me who no longer move around much and can’t give reports interesting and important for travelers. The owners and members said “don’t worry”
there’s plenty of room for you old timers – you still give us the occasional memoir, quip or caution that enlightens or entertains the “True Nomads”,
those brave new souls who live in the U.S. or elsewhere who come down here for surf and sun.
I’m glad I got that out of the way, glad I stayed because there are times when the newcomers have information I need or interesting items to lighten
my day. After that breakthrough I asked a lot of questions about fishing and fish gear – new methods, new equipment, changes in lures, bait, leaders.
I got a ton of information and from it learned enough to update and rethink. Much obliged.
Some years ago when I kept my boat on the beach, somebody stole my toldo, my shade. Over the last few years, while I try to wear a hat most of the day
I must admit that it blows off, I pull it off, use it to pour sea water over my head and consequently the wind and sun and water have wrecked my hair.
It is now damaged – split and dried and twisted so it looks nothing like hair.
What do you guys do with your damaged hair? Now I don’t want any fancy heated oil processes but there must be some simple hair care remedies I could
find, even way down here in Primitiveland. Some of you must have similar conditions or hair. How do you cope with the power of the sun, the wind, the
salt, the hour after hour abuse your hair goes through when out on the briny?
I asked who I thought were my friends on Bloody Decks but they just called me names (some of the names were so vulgar they didn’t even make sense).

Osprey thats real simple
about once a week at least grease it up real good with Olive Oil then let it set 30 minutes before washing, the stuff works miracles.

Supposedly beer conditions the hair or if you dont want to waste beer, you might try mayonnaise.

I solved the problem, OSPREY...I shaved my head completely.
I used to use fish oil on it. The bonus was that it also worked as a vaginal lubricant. My wife liked it previously, but a shaved head turns her on
even more!
I too, Osprey, look for the fishing reports, fishing gear suggestions, lures, and fishing techniques, But so far I have gotten nothing. Even
when I U2U'd, especially to El Faro who promised photos of gear, GPS, fish finder and inventory list. Five months later my kayak and myself are still
on ground zero.
I have been hitting a lot of yard and estate sales to see if I can buy someone's left-over gear.
BUT, should one of you Nomads run into a deal, please U2U, or if you would like my cell # please U2U and I'll give it to you.
I would do the same for any of you.

Get one of those locals that live around you to cilmb up a coco tree and get you a half green/half orange nut.
Take your machete(you do have a license for use of a machete, I assume) and whack that puppy open.
forget about the juice, I dont care what jimmy buffett said or was it harry belafonte..."you put the rum in the coconut and you swish it all around"
now that I think about it, it could have been put the lime......anyway olvides la juga....
get the jelly out with some other smaller sharp object...buck knife, the blade off your toenail clippers, whatever you have handy.
Rub that jelly all over your head.

As for the hair, an electric trimmer with the #1 or #2 on it.

A strong rosemary (romero) tea solution is also a good conditioner. And imagine the potential of mixing it with olive oil, bajajack's conditioner of
choice. Throw in some of Bajajudy's arugula seed from the plant-naming thread-- now we're cookin'!
So you know that old saying-- ...I'll eat my hat!-- nobody ever follows through. But after a month or so with this hair care system you'll be able to
say-- ...I'll eat my hair!-- and actually follow through, and be healthier for having done it!
Oh, and Judy, I think it's best to use the rum AND the lime, but for heaven's sake, don't waste it on your hair!

First, before you walk outside in the morning, put ''leave in'' conditioner in your hair. Any kind of ''leave in'' conditioner will work. Don't
put it on your scalp -- just in the ends -- maybe 1''-2'' from the ends.
Cut the ends once a month or two. Damaged hair is more an issue for those who have longer hair.
Learn how to cut your own hair if you don't know already. It's not hard. There are ''basics'' regarding ''perimeter'' (the ''line'' that follows
the ''circle'' your hair takes around your head) and ''elevation'' -- your hair at a 90 degree angle to your scalp.
Cover your hair in the sun -- kerchief, cap.
That's about it. Check back with a critique in a month. Shouldn't have any more problems.

I figured why bother and have now gone the self barbering route with a set of clippers and as soon as I get a split end (notice I said A , one, split
end,) I trim it again. But I did have to get one of those cool hats with the bandana on the back to keep the sun off of my ears. Course, if they get
sunburned then I have a good excuse to sit out a few days and just have straight Pacificos without the fishing.

Many of the above will work. The water, sun and wind have damaged the cuticle(outer layer of your hair). Cut is as short as you are willing to live
with and "start over". All the products, recommended, leave-in conditioner, olive oil, and Mayonnaise, will work to soften the outer layer and make
your hair look better. You can enhance the effect of the products by putting them on your hair and then wrapping in plastic wrap for half an hour.
Buy the gentlest shampoo you can find..baby shampoo.
If you shampoo the product out of your hair use tepid water and rinse with cold water. Don't blow dry your hair. Try not to shampoo your hair more
often than necessary. If it isn't dirty but just unruly from sleeping...rinse with cold water.

I will also weigh in on the side of shaving it off. I was once bald but now I'm SHAVEN. There is a big difference. I have taken control of the way my
hair looks. I have been shaving for about 15 years, long before it was popular. It's easy and quick once you get the hang of it and some girls dig
it.....some don't. Lucky for me, mine does. It's just a little more face to shave in the morning....dt

No No! Osprey, you have a great head of hair and nice full beard! Don't shave it!!As others have said, a good ap of olive oil will help and oldlady
also knows what she is talking about.Mild shampoo,and trim the ends(or more) Those "almost bald" guys may tell you otherwise...Me, I love to run my
fingers thru my mans hair!!
